

Donald Jerome West, age 88 of Warren, died Friday, March 25, 2016 at St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren. He was born November 5, 1927 in Birmingham, Michigan, son of the late Raymond and the late Fern (nee: Delaney) West.Donald was born and raised in Birmingham, Michigan where he attended Birmingham Baldwin High School and proudly graduated on June 7, 1945. It was just 5 months later that Donald would answer the call to serve our country, which he did as a soldier in the U.S. Army. From November 21, 1945 thru March 1, 1947, he was stationed in Germany and was part of the Army's 14th Infantry Regiment. Awards he received included the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal for his time overseas. With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Donald for his brave and valiant service, and his willingness to stand in harm's way for the sake of liberty both at home and abroad. Following his return stateside, it didn't take Donald long to get back in the swing of things with regards to his education. He decided the Detroit Institute of Technology held the opportunities he was looking for, and 4 years later was honored to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering on June 6, 1952. A little over 3 years later, Donald's life took on a whole new meaning when he married the girl of his dreams, Miss Frances "Helen" DePolis, on November 19, 1955. They were blessed to have 2 beautiful sons, Donald and Robert.All of this education and preparation lead Donald to seek a position in the booming automotive industry, with companies on his resume including the likes of General Motors, Chrysler, Holly Carburetor, and Sperry Vickers. Enjoying a robust career that spanned over 45 years, Donald finally accepted his well-deserved retirement after sharing the utmost in dedicated service and professionalism.Donald was the beloved husband of Frances "Helen" West. Loving father of Donald (Christopher) Chapo and Robert West. Dear brother of Stan West. Visitation for Donald will take place on Thursday, March 31st from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. His Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 1st at the funeral home.
