Beloved husband of 63 years to Tina to whom he wed July 7, 1962. Loving dad of Terri Mulligan and Michele Zormeier. Caring grandpa of Kristen Mulligan and William Mulligan. Dear brother of Ron (Elaine) Zormeier and the late Joann Zormeier.
Ed had a love for sports, making varsity in basketball, football and track. He graduated from East Detroit High School in 1957 where you will still see his photo in the Hall of Fame. He received a full ride scholarship to Fresno State University but soon returned home after the death of his father to care for his mother, brother and sister. Ed had many jobs. He fondly spoke of his younger days as caddy carrying doubles for greater tip money at the Lochmoor country club. In his 20s, he began a career in sales. At first, he owned bakery and milk routes working for Awrey’s Bakery, Sanders, and Borden Milk. His sales career continued with Hills Brothers Coffee, Tony’s Pizza, and Stella Cheese, retiring at the age of 63 from Bay Corrugated. Throughout his sales career, every new job brought a better salary. He loved the benefits of a company car and expense.
He was a family man. He loved to laugh and joke around. He enjoyed going to the movies; Bullitt, Dirty Harry and The Sting were among his favorites. Most memorable vacations included Traverse City, Mackinaw Island, Toronto, and Arizona. He had a love for gambling. He enjoyed betting on sports. Vacations always included gambling -- Woodbine race track, Derby Lane Greyhound track, and Atlantic City and Laughlin Casinos. His sales positions took him away for a day or two for food shows but when he returned his car was filled with all of our favorite foods!
During their retirement years Ed and Tina traveled with their daughter, Michele, to many of her medical conferences. Winters were spent in California. He had a love for saving money but he also loved to give it too. He didn’t like to spend on himself, except gambling of course, where he would always say he won more than he lost. He loved his grandchildren and would often pick up Kristen and William from school and go to McDonalds. With their daughter, Terri, he came to Jellystone Campground. The grandchildren remember miniature golf with their papa.
He kept his faith strong through a storied medical history. The last few years were tough but he was determined to keep strong, going to physical therapy twice a week.
Ed passed peacefully in his sleep at Henry Ford Warren Hospital on December 15,2025, at 2:22 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be accepted at the Capuchins Soup Kitchen, Detroit Michigan
