Born on March 26, 1931, in Reghin, Romania, Ernst was the beloved son of Ernst and Emma Wachner. A man of strong character, wit, and quiet generosity, Ernst built a life marked by deep love for his family, loyal friendships, and a passion for life’s simple pleasures.
On April 12, 1969, Ernst married the love of his life, Hannelore. Together, they shared over five decades of joy, adventure, and companionship. The two were inseparable travel partners, going on 18 cruises and exploring the world side by side. Their cabin up North became a treasured retreat where they welcomed friends and family, enjoyed evenings on the pontoon boat, and played card games late into the night.
Ernst was known for his sharp mind and enjoyment of games of chance and strategy—especially poker—and he never missed an opportunity to watch horse racing or track the ups and downs of the stock market. His love of life extended to the people around him, and he delighted in spending time with his extended family and wide circle of friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife Hannelore, as well as his cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings Elsa (Eduard) Wachner, Emmy Wermescher, Elfiede Wermescher, and Gerda Steiner.
Ernst will be remembered for his warm spirit, his unwavering love for those closest to him, and the joy he brought to every gathering. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and adventure.
Instate will be held on Monday, August 4, from 9:30am until the time of the funeral service at 10:30am at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, 11423 Chicago Road, in Warren.
In lieu of flowers any donations made in his memory to St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, 11423 Chicago Road, Warren, Michigan, would be deeply appreciated.
