Evelyn R. Felcyn, age 85, and a longtime resident of Warren for 52 years, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at St. John Macomb Oakland Hospital Macomb Center in Warren, Michigan. Evelyn was born April 6, 1926 in Detroit, the daughter of late Joseph and the late Agnes (nee: Kilanowski) Gorecki. On May 5, 1945, Evelyn's life was wonderfully changed when she promised herself in marriage to the love of her life, Arthur. Together, they shared 57 years growing in love, building a home, and nurturing a family until Arthur's passing in 2002. In telling the story of Evelyn, perhaps the most definitive description would be that of a "working woman." She was a "doer" and a "go-getter" who managed to juggle long hours and demanding workloads on a mere 3-4 hours of sleep a night. The Eveready Bunny couldn't hold a candle to Evelyn's stamina. For 15 years, she was extremely proud of her work at Fisher Body, in Detroit, where she was employed as a secretary to the executives on the 17th floor. When initially applying for the position, her strong work ethics must have shone like a beacon in the night as she was hired on-the-spot! Also, for many years, her dual skills as a bookkeeper came into play as she attended to her son's business at Midwest Woodworks. But this certainly doesn't fully reflect her resume. As if the above responsibilities weren't enough, add to that the 25+ years that Evelyn held the position of secretary for both St. Sylvester Catholic Church, and school, in Warren. Along with being a founding member of the church, she was also quite active in its social outreach as well. Over the years, Evelyn was an integral part and motivating force behind & toward the formation of a number of the church's social activities. Her organizational skills were well-suited for starting up the Women's Bowling League, the Women's Golf League, the Christian Mother's Group, and the Ladies Guild. In getting these groups off the ground, she always seemed to hold down a leadership role as secretary, treasurer, or bookkeeper. As the groups flourished, their success was due, in large part, to Evelyn's managerial prowess and detail-oriented talents. Along with tending to the business aspects, she was also instrumental in ordering the trophies, finding sponsorship, and organizing the annual banquets for each of the groups as well. So basically, there was no moss growing under this ladies feet, for sure! How Evelyn managed to wear all of the hats she did is a wonder for the ages, but a testimony to a woman who took each of her roles seriously. Yet, amidst all of this, the role she cherished the most was that of grandmother,...a position that required no work at all. She loved listening to stories about her grandkids, and found her greatest enjoyment in life through the times spent in their company and the precious memories they created together. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Evelyn leaves behind a legacy of love that will always be remembered and forever treasured by all those whose lives she touched along life's way. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur, and loving mother of Pat Caruso, Pam (Neil) Juliar, and Greg (Mary Ann) Felcyn. She was the devoted grandmother of Nicole, Cathrine, Rebecca, Caylin, Christina, Benjamin, Nathaniel, and Zachary. Dear great grandmother of Jaclyn, Lauren, Joslyn, and Jacob. Evelyn was also survived by her siblings, Geraldine (Leonard) Terlecki, Lorraine Flesher, and Margaret (John) Guttek. A Memorial visitation will be held on June 3rd, 2011 at 10:00 am followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30 am at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, 11200 Tweleve Mile Road in Warren. Immediately following the mass a luncheon will be held at the Cutting Board Restaurant, 28655 Schoenherr Road, Warren,(just south of 12 Mile). The arrangements were entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 Mile). Please share memories of Evelyn at her guest book.
