Frank J. Stella, age 89 of Macomb, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on March 3, 1924 in Detroit, son of the late Joseph and the late Carmella (nee: Calomeni) Stella. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Frank for his brave and valiant service during World War II at a soldier in the U.S. Army. With his duties taking him to the European Theater of Operations, Frank was an integral part of both the Battle of the Bulge and the infamous Normandy Invasion. Having achieved the rank of First Sergeant, he was a decorated veteran who exemplified the passion of patriotism and love of country. For the sacrifices made and his willingness to stand in harm's way for the furtherance of freedom, we honor Frank's service and are grateful for the liberties we enjoy today,...because he was "over there."And not just in conjunction with the war effort,...Frank's patriotism was a part of who he was each and every day of his life. He not only served our country, but believed in her with every fabric of his being. So it was no surprise to his neighbors that they would witness his devotion each day at sun-up and sundown as he would proudly make his trek to the flagpole to display the banner of freedom he loved so well,...our glorious American Flag! Frank was a loyal and longtime employee within the automotive industry where he worked as a Processing Engineer for Holly Carbeurator. When he wasn't working, you would occasionally find him strapping on his accordian and filling the room with his own brand of musical entertainment. But often, you'd find him lovin' on his favorite pet yorkie, "Kayla." His dog and he were the best of friends and provided each other countless hours of companionship. But of all the traits and fabric that Frank was woven by, the most endearing was the way he lovingly took care of his wife,...and the affections that he showered upon his treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family meant the world to Frank, and there was never a doubt or question of the depths of that love and care. Between family and friends, he touched a multitude of hearts along life's way and left blessings behind everywhere he went. May he rest in peace. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley. Dear father of Robert (Cathy) Stella, Joseph (Linda) Stella, Sharon (Richard) VanDe Ven, Denise (Mark) Hambleton, and Patrick (Judy) Stella. Loving grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of 17.Visitation for Frank will be held on Tuesday, May 14th from 3-9pm at the D.S.
