Freda J. Bonczyk

Freda J. Bonczyk, age 97, died Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan surrounded by her loving family. Freda was born April 3, 1919 in Hamtramck, Michigan, daughter of the late Francis Jablonowski and the late Bronislawa (nee: Chundrzynski) Jablonowski.Following her schooling, Freda worked various jobs and later married the love of her life, Zigmund Bonczyk. The young couple eventually bought their first home on Riopelle Street in Detroit where Freda was known as the neighborhood "Mom." Most of the children in the neighborhood seemed to congregate at the Bonczyk home,...probably because Mrs. Bonczyk was a wonderful Polish cook and welcomed anyone to her table.Mrs. Bonczyk was devoted to her faith and to her church... most notably St. Rita's Catholic Church where she was an active member. She was part of the Moms Club, a member of the Altar Society, and a volunteer at many of the events and social functions. Additionally, Freda loved to have a good time which often entailed enjoying some of her favorite activities such as Polka dancing, visiting the casinos, and in her younger years playing basketball and bowling. She was an avid sports fan, always cheering on her beloved Detroit Tigers and Detroit Piston Basketball teams.Freda Bonczyk was the beloved wife of the late Zigmund Bonczyk, and is the dear mother of Gary Bonczyk, and Cindy (Paul) Millitello. She was the loving grandmother of Drew, Brittany, and Paige Millitello. Visitation for Mrs. Bonczyk will be held Wednesday, May 4th from 5-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, 11am at the funeral home.
