Gary Bowers

Beloved husband of Penny, whom he married on September 6, 1968. Loving father of Brandy (Timothy) Allport and the late Robin Raab. Proud Popow of Sean (Meggan) Delisi, Brett (Rachel) Delisi, Blake (Madison) Neumann, and Brooklyn Allport. Cherished great-grandpa Popow of Nola Delisi. Dear brother of Linda Foresgren and the late Lin (the late Kathy) Bowers. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, dear friends Luke and Danny, and many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Bandit.

Gary was truly a friend to all. He treasured his lifelong friendships, especially his longtime group known as “The Mild Bunch” jokingly referred to as “The Wild Bunch” in their younger days. These friendships, formed in junior high, lasted a lifetime, and Gary would travel whenever he could to see them.

He worked for General Motors as a skilled wood model maker. Woodworking was not only his profession but also his passion. He loved putzing around the house, building and fixing things, and creating beautiful wooden pieces, many made especially for his beloved Penny. If she saw something she liked while out shopping, she knew Gary could make it even better at home. He also enjoyed drawing and expressed his creativity in many forms.

Gary loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, especially on trips to Atlanta, and frequently went on golfing trips throughout Michigan with his grandsons. Family trips up north to Lewiston were special to him, where he enjoyed snowmobiling.

Above all, Gary loved being surrounded by his family and friends. Nothing brought him greater joy. He also had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. He is survived by his faithful companion, Coal, and was blessed with many beloved dogs throughout his life.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 26, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Road, Warren, MI 48088. Visitation will continue Friday, February 27, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
