

Genevieve Rose Dobrzeniecki, "Jean," age 101 of Warren, died Saturday, October 13, 2018. Jean was born December 28, 1916 in Hamtramck, Michigan, daughter of the late Joseph and the late Rosalie (nee: Kata) Pokoj. Jean was raised in Hamtramck and attended St. Florian Catholic High School. She would later marry the love of her life, Joseph Dobrzeniecki at that same church on December 26, 1944.Jean worked for over 20 years at Chrysler's Dodge Main Plant working as an inspector of parts and wiring harnesses. Jean also worked as a waitress at Kitty's Kitchen, a restaurant owned by her oldest sister, and also at Midtown Bar and the Swinging City Bar. Her husband Joe was a Journeyman electrician. During their early years of marriage the couple longed to have children, however God's plan was for Jean and Joe to eventually adopt.Jean and Joe worked with the Catholic Social Services to adopt a little 2 year old boy. In 1957, Jean brought home to America her son Joseph from Rome, Italy, and four years later a second son by the name of Stephen from Milan, Italy. Once Jean had children she became a full-time "stay at home" Mom. She cherished her sons and also loved being surrounded by her entire extended family. Jean constantly gave of herself to others and her church. She truly lived the life of a Christian. She seemed to search out those who might be struggling and in the most need of her attention.Jean was an active and devoted member of both St. Florian Catholic Church and St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. She was a member of the Alter Society, the Rosary Society, St. Theresa's Guild, and sang in the choir at St. Florian. Jean cherished her town of Hamtramck and loved the annual Strawberry Festival of which she also volunteered her time. Additionally, she was an active member of the Catholic War Veteran's Ladies Auxiliary Post 360 where every Mother's Day she gave of her volunteering talents selling poppies to raise money for the veterans.As her sons became adults and started families of their own, Jean relished being a grandmother "Busia," and Great-Busia, and loved spending time watching her family flourish and grow. After her husband retired, the couple enjoyed visiting other family members and celebrating the holidays. Jean also loved to travel, visiting Europe several times and much of the United States. Jean was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Dobrzeniecki, and dear mother of Joseph & Molly Dobrzeniecki, and the late Stephen Dobrzeniecki. Loving Busia of Timothy & Kelly, Robert, Suzanne, Nicole, and Great-Busia of Samantha and Bryce. Jean is also survived by her three siblings, Dolores (Jim) Terebus, Rosalie (Art) Skorupa, Bernadine (John) Stofanik and preceded in death by her other eight siblings; Katherine (Louie) Bach, Casmere (Helen) Pokoj, Joseph (Jean) Pokoj, Annie (Andy) Bush, John (Phyllis) Pokoj, Edward (Veronica) Pokoj, Theresa Pokoj, and Michael Pokoj. Visitation for Jean will be held Wednesday, October 17th from 3-9 pm, with a 6 pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. Jean will lie in state on Thursday from 9:30 am until time of the Funeral Service at 10:00 am at St. Florian Catholic Church, 2626 Poland Street, Hamtramck, Michigan 48212. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Reverend Fr.
