Gloria T. Bloedel, was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 27, 1932, to the late Surckees Michael and the late Mary (nee: Farrah) Michael. Gloria peacefully passed away on September 9, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and a pillar to all who knew her.
Gloria’s journey began in Detroit, where she was raised and spent her formative years. On October 16, 1959, she embarked on a lifelong journey with her loving husband, Wes Bloedel, in a ceremony held in Detroit. Together, they later moved to Roseville in 1971, where they continued to build their life and family.
Gloria dedicated herself to raising a large and loving family, embracing the roll of a devoted stay-at-home mom. Her culinary skills were legendary among her children, with set days for favorite menu items, including spaghetti, hot dogs, chicken, pot roast, and her famous towering pork chops, standing 18 inches high on the platter. These family meals were a testament to her love and commitment.
Beyond her kitchen, Gloria had a passion for crosswords and puzzles, a testament to her sharp mind. She was a vigilant neighborhood watch member, caring deeply for the safety and well-being of her community (and just making sure the neighbor boys weren’t fighting with each other while the parents were at work.) Family was at the heart of her life, and she cherished moments spent with her grandchildren, always ready to engage in play and laughter.
Gloria found joy in her close-knit circle of women, often enjoying a night out with her daughters, daughters-in-law, and granddaughters. Her strong faith played an essential role in her life, and she cherished attending church services with her family.
She will be remembered for her unwavering love, her dedication to family, her culinary talents, and her commitment to her community. She leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of warmth and love.
