

Halina Kopczewski, age 95 of Warren, died Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Evangelical Homes of Michigan in Sterling Heights. She was born on August 2, 1918 in Poland, daughter of the late Jan and the late Stanislawa (nee: Wisniewska) Michalski. Halina was the beloved wife of the late Alphonse, and dearest aunt of Krzysztof "Chris" Michalski, Jurek Michalski, and Danusia Zawadzka. She was predeceased by brother's, Witold and Tadeusz and sister's, Alicja Pozowska and Alfreda Zawadzka. Halina grew up in Warsaw, Poland in a patriotic polish family. She was a participant of the Warsaw Uprising '44, and survived Oswiecim-Aushwitz and later Ravensbrück, German concentration camps. After the war, she met and married an american soldier who served in the Polish Army, Alphonse Kopczewski, and together they immigrated to the Unites States and settled in Detroit. Beginning in the late 1940's to the mid-1950's, Halina and her husband sponsored and assisted in the immigration of numerous polish families from Europe and South America to the United States. Halina was widowed in 1965. In order to support herself, she decided to seek employment and was hired by Holly Carburetor in Warren, Michigan. After 20 years of dedicated & loyal service in the accounting department, she retired in 1987 as a well-respected employee. Halina was a close friend to the late Father Wladyslaw Gowin, Provincial Pastor of the Society of Christ. She was an original parishioner and long-time supporter of Our Lady of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Halina will be dearly missed by family and friends in the United States and Poland.A Memorial Mass for Halina will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, February 8th at Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church, 3100 Eighteen Mile Road in Sterling Heights, Michigan.Please share memories of Halina at her memory book.
