

Harold Duane Freeman, a veteran of the Persian Gulf war and longtime resident of Eastpointe, Michigan passed away on October 28, 2023, surrounded by family. Harold was born in Detroit on September 28, 1952, the first son of the late Calvin and late Sarah (nee Ramey) Freeman.
Harold is survived by his wife and love of his life, Hae Suk Freeman whom he met while stationed in Seoul, Korea. They were married on March 3, 1975, and lived a true love story for 48 years. They had three sons, the late Michael, late James and raised one son: Richard Duane (Melissa). He was the treasured Harabeoji (grandpa) of Oliviana and Sophia. He was preceded in death by siblings Barbara McAnally, Norma Waelchli, Bobby Freeman, Carolyn Blanton, Kenneth Freeman, and Charles Freeman. He is survived by sisters Diane Freeman (Paul Byrne) and Sheila Porritt (Bill) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
After graduating from Southeastern High School (Detroit), Harold chose to serve his country at the young age of 18 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Harold valued this service highly by serving over 22 years and attained the rank of First Sergeant. He was awarded many ribbons and medals most notably the National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Southwest Asia Service with three Bronze Service Stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Drill Sergeant ID Badge, and Sharpshooter Qualification Badge.
After his military discharge, he worked for Health Alliance Plan for 10 years conducting membership audits. After a brief retirement, Harold returned to the workforce as an underground location technician in Detroit. He was proud of his knowledge of Detroit and the city he grew up in. He could give you directions and landmarks better than any GPS.
Harold will be remembered as a selfless, devoted husband, father, son, brother, and uncle. He always had a smile or joke even when times were tough. Harold loved spending time with family but most importantly with his granddaughters. He loved his siblings and never missed the monthly lunch in over 20 years. His hobbies were hunting and fishing.
The Family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Jamika Mitchell of CJ Unlimited Kare for all the kindness and wonderful tireless care. Jamika was family to Harold, and he adored her. They enjoyed time together by playing games and watching movies which included lots of jokes.
Services will be held at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Rd., Warren, Michigan on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11:00am with service at 5pm. Interment will be held at a later at the Great Lakes National Cemetery.
In lieu of flower memorial donations may be made to his family. Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories. Harold is dearly love and deeply missed.
