Harry F. Gilbert, age 65 of Warren, died Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Providence Hospital in Southfield. He was born on February 3, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Reuben and the late Lillian (nee: Fishkin) Gilbert. For many years, Harry worked in the field of Systems Engineering where he ultimately moved into the role of a consultant. He was acclaimed for being quite detail oriented and thorough, with a penchant towards problem solving. He was very good at what he did "on the job,"...but it's what he did away from the job that exercised some of his greatest passions and talents through the art of photography. Harry's gift with the camera was something to behold, and his portfolio is rife with the splendor he captured over the years. For those intrigued and interested, his photographic works can be enjoyed by visiting his website, http://fgallc.smugmug.comWhen he wasn't working, Harry was a huge travel enthusiast who was fortunate to enjoy some of America's most noted scenic destinations such as the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Gatlinburg, TN (on the way to infamous Dollywood), as well as the 2 incredible trips he took to Alaska. He loved the traveling enjoyed on family vacations, which often included the ever-popular treks to Orlando and Ft. Myers, Florida. And, of course, with camera in tow. And another of his favorite pastimes was enjoying many of the old movies on the Turner Classic Movie channel. Harry was an old movie buff that could never get enough of the "real" TV entertainment from days gone by. Then there was his love of animals,...an attraction that went both ways. He loved them, and they loved him, and it was through that connection that Harry's softer side truly had its glow and impact. Harry was a unique and eclectic presence to so many for so many different reasons. Some of his most notable traits included the fact that he was an avid reader. Always looking to learn and improve, the written word offered this lifelong student the opportunity to expand his mind and grow in knowledge,...a cornerstone on which his character was built. And along with a sharp mind, Harry also possessed a wonderful sense of humor that radiated his verve for life and the balance that a little levity would bring to a conversation or situation in life. He was also known for being extremely computer savvy and handy with his tools. It seemed like he was always building something, or working his wiles in cyberspace. And being a lover of the outdoors and the thrills of camping, Harry found great reward and enjoyment as a Cub Scout Leader and taking his den mates on their camping excursions at D Bar A. Getting back to nature was refreshing for Harry, and helping to mold his boys on their road toward manhood was the icing on the cake. When it came to his bride, Kathleen,...it" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">...it was as if the honeymoon had never ended. Harry was truly her strength, her loving support network, and her Knight in shining armor. He was always there with an encouraging word, nurturing her ambitions and helping to turn Kathleen's dreams into reality. In the trying times, through her many surgeries and recovery periods, his strength was there,...girding her up and providing the wind beneath her wings. Harry was more than merely a husband,...he was a Caregiver Extraordinaire! And if that hasn't grabbed your heart, telling the story of Harry would be sadly remiss if not for the mention of his fatherhood as well. George was the second brightest star in Harry's sky, a son he loved from the depths of his being and with whom he was extremely proud. Always attentive, always in touch,...Harry recognized George's abilities and strengths and did all he could to mentor his son with the utmost in care and positive reinforcement,...and George turned out pretty darn good in the process!Above all else for Harry,...it was about "family." It may have just been the three of them, but it was as if he loved enough for 30 of them. He did a lot, attained a lot, and experienced a lot. But his most precious and treasured memories are those shared with Kathy and George. Gone far too soon from this life and our presence, Harry leaves behind a storehouse of cherished moments and memories that will serve as a beacon and guiding light through life to those who were blessed to know this wonderful, giving man. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Harry was the beloved husband of Kathy, and the loving father of George. Memorial Visitation for Harry will be held on Monday, December 30th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. His Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00am on Tuesday at the funeral home.
