

Harvey R. Eckhardt, age 88 of Warren, died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren. He was born in Detroit on April 25, 1921, son of the late Gustav and the late Emma (nee: Bieckele) Eckhardt. We pay homage to Harvey for the call to duty he proudly served as a member of the Unites States Air Force. During World War II, he was one of the many who answered the call for the cause of freedom & liberty and gave from the heart of a patriot. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we honor his life and service today. Harvey was a passionate educator in the Detroit and Warren Consolidated School systems where he positively influenced the hearts and minds of many future generations. He will be remembered fondly by his students and staffs as a fair and honest man. Throughout his working years, Harvey coached with the Catholic High School League at St. Philip Neri and Notre Dame. Pursuant to those efforts, Harvey was inducted into the Catholic League Hall of Fame in 1977. Mr. Eckhardt completed a full career of 45 years in education and was recognized for his retirement by the State of Michigan with Senate Resolution No. 25 on January 27, 1987. Harvey, and his beloved Jean, enjoyed traveling in retirement. During the winter months they called Port Charlotte, Florida their home, where they spent good times with family and friends. Harvey inspired an inordinate amount of people throughout his life, from many students, teachers, athletes that revered his integrity and skills to the family and friends who had the blessing of knowing him more intimately. His legacy will live on through his many achievements and his family. He will truly and sincerely be missed by all. Beloved husband of Jean. Loving grandfather of Amy, Kevin, Michelle, Jessica, Rebecca, Fred John, and great-grandchildren; Luke, Ellie, Natalie, Andrew and Julia. Visitation for Harvey will be on Tuesday from 3-9 pm with a 6 pm Scripture Service at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. He will lie in state Wednesday 11:00 am at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:30 am. Officiating the Funeral Liturgy will be Rev. Fr. Roman Pasieczny. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
