

Herber Lehrter age 89, of Las Vegas, died May 6, 2010. He is survived by his wife, of 38 years, Patricia Lewis Lehrter; children, Richard J. "Rick" Lehrter (Debbie) of Tulsa, Okla., Laura L. Michaels (Tom) of Troy, Mich., Michael P. Lehrter of Austin, Texas, and Sheila L. Popa (Ernie) of Wilmette, Ill.; and 12 grandchildren. Born Sept. 3, 1920, to Herbert A. Sr. and Myrtle Lehrter, he grew up in Chicago and graduated from Kelvyn Park High School in 1938. Herbert married Eileen Theresa Sullivan Lehrter in 1948, the mother of his four children, who passed away in 1971. Mr. Lehrter achieved academic successes with business undergraduate and MBA degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. He proudly served his country during wartime, flying missions with U.S. Air Force as many pilot accomplishments in World War II, with subsequent Korean War overseas assignment as a lieutenant in French Morocco, Africa. Following his military service Herbert accomplished early business career included various marketing and advertising positions with Pure Oil Company and subsequent executive duties as advertising manager for Mars Candy Company, in Oak Brook, Ill., vice president and director of advertising and marketing for Hiram Walker Inc., in Detroit, and vice president and director of marketing and advertising for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). He served two terms as chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC), member and former usher of Guardian Angel Cathedral, in Las Vegas, fundraiser for the Chulucanas, Peru Mission, a Kentucky Colonel, member of the Military Officers Association of America, member of the Adcraft Club of Detroit, and a loyal UNLV Rebels Basketball fan. A cemetery committal service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday May 14, 2010 in Resurrection Cemetery with full military honors. Please share memories of Mr. Lehrter at his guest book.
