Jacob Nick Steigerwald, age 94 of Sterling Heights, died December 16, 2013 in Shelby Township, Michigan. Jacob was born February 2, 1919 in Detroit, son of the late Joseph and Mary (nee: Yost) Steigerwald. Jacob was married to the love of his life Ellen for 71 years. Together they raised a beautiful daughter Linda, who was the treasure of her parent's hearts. In Jacob's younger years, he played basketball at a local VFW hall and enjoyed following the Detroit Lions. Whether the Lions had a winning or losing team, Jacob would follow them through "thick and thin." Jacob worked for the Kalamazoo State Hospital before moving to Detroit and working in the tool & die industry. In his spare time, Jacob enjoyed walking and working hard. No matter what the task, Jacob enjoyed putting forth his best effort at everything he did. This was especially true when he was a farmer in Brown City. The workload of a farmer is strenuous and the hours long, but Jacob met each challenge head on - such was his nature! He also enjoyed reading, especially newspapers, and keeping up with current events on CNN. He was a very worldly man when it came to being up to speed on current events!Jacob's greatest memories are the ones he shared with Ellen and Linda. Spending time with family was what meant the most to Jacob. Even though he was separated by great distance from some of his family, like his nephews in Tennessee, he would still visit them when he could and would follow their lives and how they were doing. Jacob Nick Steigerwald is the beloved husband of the late Ellen Steigerwald. He is the loving father of Linda Steigerwald and the dearest friend of Norm Gottardo and Janet Gottardo. He is also survived by his cat "Whiskers".
