

James Edward Hengstebeck, age 87 and longtime resident of Warren, died Sunday, October 27, 2013 at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren Michigan.James was born December 10, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Anthony T. Hengstebeck and the late Clara (nee: Egeler) Hengstebeck. James was raised in Detroit and graduated from St. Rose Catholic High School. Following high school, Jim worked for WXYZ Radio, and enjoyed the special honor of working on the Lone Ranger radio show while attending the University of Detroit.During the Korean War, James was called to serve his country and did so in the United States Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. After receiving an honorable discharge and the Korean Service Medal, along with Bronze Campaign Stars, James returned home to Detroit.Surrounded by many family members, all of whom worked for Ford Motors, Jim decided to join the ranks at Ford where he worked for many years and eventually rose to a Supervisory position in final assembly. When Jim was not working, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and especially playing cards. Jim 's favorite game of all was poker. He and his wife enjoyed their many trips to Las Vegas... Jim always trying his hand at "Lady Luck". Later in life, Jim and his wife spent time traveling to visit their children and family members in Seattle, Arizona, and California.Jim was also devoted to his faith and his church. He and his wife were lifetime members of St. Dorothy Catholic Church in Warren, now known as St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families, St. Dorothy Campus.James Hengstebeck was the cherished husband of Teresa for over 59 years, and is the dear father of Julie (Mark) Mitman, Mary Fast, Karen (Robert) Kasprzyk, Jeanne (Radim) Michaels, and David Hengstebeck. He is also the loving grandfather of Christine, Nick, Lauren, Ryan, Danielle, and is the beloved brother of Tom (Christine) Hengstebeck, Bill (Nickie) Hengstebeck, Bob (Lucy) Hengstebeck, and the late Eleanore Sadler. Visitation for Mr. Hengstebeck will be Tuesday from 5-9 pm and Wednesday from 2-9pm, with a 6:30pm Scripture Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. He will lie in state on Thursday from 11:30am until time of the Funeral Mass at 12:00pm at St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families Catholic Church - St. Dorothy Campus, (on Frazho between Hoover and Schoenherr), in Warren.
