James Allen Hicks, age 84, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan. He was born on October 26, 1934 in Hazel Park to the late Edwin Earl and Iris Lorraine (nee: Bartley) Hicks. James was born and raised in Hazel Park. He joined the army at the young age of 18 and was part of the 82nd Airborne. James truly was a working man. He served as the produce supervisor for 32 years at Farmer Jack. After a lifetimes worth of work, James decided to open up his own carpet cleaning company where he would hold the title, President of Tru-Color. In 1978, James married the love of his life, Jone. The two began their 40 year marriage with a splendid honeymoon to Jamaica. They lived in Sterling Heights as newlyweds and eventually moved to Florida. Although the second honeymoon lasted only five years before they made their way back to Sterling Heights because they missed their grandkids. It was no secret James enjoyed working, but he really loved spending time with family and friends. James was an avid golfer and was one of the lucky ones who was able to sink the coveted "Hole in One," quite a difficult accomplishment! James also enjoyed the sporting pastimes of fishing and bowling. When he was not active, James enjoyed eating sweets. His favorite sweet to snack on was ice cream. As the years went on it became clear that James was a true games man. He enjoyed playing cards, especially '13', and his dice games. James also had fun playing 'screw your neighbor' with his beloved family. He was also a Lifetime Elks Member of Rotunda, Florida where the family had many great times together. When James wasn't working, he liked imparting some of his vast wisdom upon his many children. James was always great with finances and wanted to make sure his kids were well taken care of. He would give them advice on their investments and monetary accounts as well as helping when they needed it. You couldn't walk into the house and say "What's up, Pops?", without James making a lovely sarcastic comment to follow. His family will forever remember him as the King of One-Liners. His humor will be missed by all. James always enjoyed spending the holidays with his family: 9 children, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. On Christmas he would get to play the special part of Santa. James would dress up in the big red Santa suit, (beard and all), and pass out gifts to his cherished family. James was the loving husband of Jone. Beloved father and "pops" of Kimberly (Joel) Gordinier, Ty (Paulette) Hicks, Deann (Kevin) Girard, Todd (Kim) Hicks, Bobbie (Donna) Sandusky, Leslie (Colleen) Sandusky, Linda (Paul Spannos) Baker, June (Steven) Demattei, and John (Kimberly) Zaorski. James is further survived by his 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. James also leaves behind his cherished pup, Polly. On Tuesday, November 27th, the family will receive visitors from 10:30 am until the time of his Memorial Service at 11:30 am at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd.) in Warren. James will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.
