

Jane Fraser Rayburn, age 65 of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, died Friday, August 22, 2014 at home after a long illness. She was born June 28, 1949 in Highland Park, daughter of the late William Bishop Rayburn Sr., and the late Rita Pauline (nee: Fraser) Rayburn.Ms. Rayburn is survived by three siblings, Rita Ryan of Acton, CA, William B. Rayburn, Jr. and Margaret Mary Rayburn, both of Ferndale, MI. She leaves nephew & Godson, Robert Mylenek, Jr. and niece, Sarah Jane Rayburn, along with many longtime friends. Jane was "Aunt" to several loving children over the years. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her elder sister, Patricia Anne Rayburn.Sadly, she lost her lifelong love last year, her beloved husband, Larry Wayne McDaniel. Along with the many highlights & features he possessed, one of the most notable was his position as host of the popular "Arkansas Traveler" program which aired on Detroit Public Radio. They met in 1974 at Cobb's Corner,…got married in 1984,…and were nearly inseparable from day one.Jane was a career journalist and restaurant critic. Not long after receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Wayne State University, she began working at "Monthly Detroit" magazine as their resident restaurant critic. Following her experiences there, Jane's desires to grow and venture beyond to new and exciting heights, she banded together with fellow colleagues and founded "Metropolitan Detroit" magazine in the 1980's. In 1991, she entered back into the forum as an esteemed restaurant critic with the Detroit News. With her love of fine food, exquisite taste, and keen writing skills, Jane embraced her career and local restuaranteurs until her retirement in 2007.Because of her work and kind heart, Jane was especially charitable to local food banks, children's charities, and the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory on Belle Isle in Detroit. The family is planning a celebration of her life on September 12, 2014 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 15020 Hampton Street, Grosse Pointe Park, MI 48230. Her Memorial Visitation will be at 10:30am until the time of her Memorial Mass at 11:00am. Arrangements were entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren.Please share memories of Jane at her memory book.
