

John A. Abbott, John the Barber , age 75 of Memphis, died Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Marysville. John was born October 19, 1929 in Highland Park, Michigan the son of the late A. Hanna and the late Sophia (nee: Akery) Hanna. He is survived by his life partner and best friend Alzetta Vicki Vick. Dear stepfather of Chuck (Nancy) Vick. Also surviving are his nieces and nephew; Annette, Denise, Barbara, Brenda, Michael, and many grand nieces and nephews. John's brothers, Tony Abbott, and Sheffeck John predeceased him. Mr. Abbott was born and raised in Highland Park, graduating Highland Park High School. After High School he served in the Army during Korean War and returned to attend Barber College. John would go on to be a barber owning and operating Tonys Barber Shop on Livernois and 7 mile with his brother Tony. He ran the barbershop in Detroit for over 20 years before moving to Memphis. For a short time he worked as the Barber supervisor for Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Mt. Clemens. Finally John opened Johns Barber Shop in Emmett. Mr. Abbott would own and operate the barbershop for over 20 years until his retirement. Mr. Abbotts passion was raising and breeding thoroughbred racehorses with his brother in Emmett for over 40 years. He also loved reading medical books and information on horses, and listening to music. When he was young he loved to play the trumpet. Mr. Abbott was a member of the VFW Post and the American Legion Post 566 both in Memphis. Funeral services will be held Friday December 31, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the D. S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home in 30009 Hoover Road at Common Road (12 Mile), Warren, Michigan. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Detroit. Visitation will be held at Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-9 P.M.
