Born in a Concentration Subcamp outside of Aachen, Germany on July 17, 1944, John was the beloved son of the late Jan (later, John Sr.) and Stefania Ciecko. After immigrating to, and becoming a citizen of the United States, John proudly served his adopted country as a United States Marine in the prestigious Force Recon during the Vietnam War. For his service, he was awarded, among various other medals, five Purple Hearts for his bravery and sacrifice.
John was the devoted husband of Celia for nearly 48 wonderful years, a milestone they would have celebrated this September. He was the loving father of Stephanie (Raymond) Goodrich, Steven (Alison) Ciecko, and John (Jenny Stewart) Ciecko III. He was the cherished grandpa of Sean, Nicholas, Peyton, Sophia, and Morgan, and lovingly known as “Papa” to David, Cece, and Manny.
John is survived by his dear brother Andrew (Carol) Ciecko and was preceded in death by his sister, Sophia Baranowski. He is also remembered by his brother-in-law Edward Baranowski and leaves behind many other beloved family members and friends.
A skilled handyman, John took great pride in caring for his home and especially his lawn, which was his pride and joy. But above all, his greatest joy came from the deep love he held for his family. His children and grandchildren were the center of his world, and his legacy of love and dedication will live on in their hearts forever.
