

John J. Flanagan age 77, of Sterling Heights died Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy. John was born March 24, 1932 in Detroit the son of the late John and the late Catherine (nee: Coughlin) Flanagan. John served our country in the United States Army, 158th Army Band in Louisville, Kentucky. He worked as the Band Director in the Madison Heights School District for 34 years. He was a Professional Musician. He was a member of the American Legion, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, and Moose Lodge. One of his greatest pleasures was golfing on his own and with the fellow club members. John loved spending time with his family and friends and he will be missed by all. John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary (nee: Jurkowski); children, M.Ceil (Michael) Salisbury, John P. (Melissa) Flanagan, Joanne (Rich) George, and Jamie (Colleen) Flanagan; grandchildren, Jennifer & Kathryn Flanagan and Colin Clark; siblings, Mary (Clarence) Schaufler and Sr. M. Rosanna Flanagan O.P.; nephews and niece, John (Kathy) Koetters, Patrick Koetters, and Teresa (Doug) Lewandowski. He is predeceased by his sister; Adele Koetters; brother in law, John Koetters. Visitation for Mr. Flanagan will be held Wednesday 3-9 pm with a 7 pm Scripture Service at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road). He will lie in state Thursday 9:00 am at St. Blase Catholic Church until the time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30 am. Officiating the Funeral Liturgy will be Rev. Fr. Randy Phillips.
