John E. Godlewski age 57. Died May 29, 2015. at his home in St. Clair Shores. John was born May 31, 1957 in Detroit to the late Raymond and the late Catherine Godlewski (nee Page). For his profession, John was employed as a Project Engineer in the automotive industry. But to those who knew him best, they'll attest to the fact that his most passionate work was the effort put forth in getting himself to the comforts of his cabin on his property up north. Working hard through the years to afford his "Backwoods Luxury," it was mostly there he enjoyed some of his favorite pastimes of hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and four-wheeling. Though he wasn't picky about where he cast his line in the water, went searching for a stag in the woods, or where he fired up one of his machines, there was no mistaking the love he held for his hideaway up north and the many awesome memories created with family and friends alike. As for the "City Sports" he favored, a fun afternoon was always enjoyed while chasing that little white ball around the course for the elusive Hole-in-One. A sunny day and a little golfing always made for a great time. And yes, like most guys, John was a Champion when it came to playing the role of "Armchair Athlete." Though he carried his love of fishing into adulthood, that passion was actually begun and nurtured when he was a young boy. Some of his fondest childhood memories were the weekends the family would head to Harsen's Island,…but more so when Dad would take him fishing. They were some treasured father & son bonding times, and lessons that John held close. Being a bit of a water baby, John also shared a passion for boats,…especially when it came to the old wooden models. There was just something nostalgic and reminiscent about the wood varieties that set them apart from the rest. And not merely one that appreciated their beauty and workmanship, he also dabbled a bit in their restoration as well. Another of John's passions was found in his coveted vegetable garden where he poured the best part of his tender-loving-care into nurturing its growth,…then sharing his harvest with others, of which his Mom was the most precious benefactor of all. Though he never had children of his own, he was truly blessed with three wonderful nephews who captured his heart from the get-go. He treasured each moment spent in their company and cherished the many memories made and shared together. Along with the precious Uncle / Nephew memories that filled his heart, so were the countless family events and gatherings that enveloped his heart & mind and provided him the strength and ties that binds a loving family together. Whether family, friend, or stranger, John was the kind of guy who always had a smile to share and a kind word to convey. He lived an unselfish life, always willing to help where it was needed and expected nothing in return. He touched a multitude of hearts and souls throughout his journey in life and leaves a legacy of love that will keep him endeared by all who were blessed to know him. A final mention of the love he shared so freely and compassionately was that which he poured into his furry, four-legged friend, Yogi. A Golden Retriever that melted everyone's heart, notwithstanding John's, provided him years of joy and pleasure as only a precious pet can do. His beloved Yogi previously crossed over that "rainbow bridge"…and the two are, now, reunited once again. He was the beloved brother of Jim Godlewski and Cindy (David) Serafin. Dearest son of the late Raymond and the late Catherine. A cherished uncle of Nicholas Serafin, Ryan Serafin, Mathew Godlewski, and the late Lia. John is also survived by many other loving aunts, uncles and cousins. A Memorial Visitation for John will be held on Thursday, June 4th from 10:00am until the time of his Memorial Service at 12:00pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. Please share memories of John at his memory book above.
