John Valentine Goryl, age 85 of Warren, died Sunday, June 27, 2021 at the Warren Campus of Ascension St. John Hospital. He was born June 21, 1936 in Detroit, son of the late John and the late Hedwig (nee: Senkowski) Goryl.
With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to John for his service to our country in the United States Air Force. Serving from 1954 to 1958, he attained the rank of Airman Third Class and wore the uniform with great pride and distinction for America. For the sacrifices made and his willingness to stand in harm's way for the sake of the freedoms & liberties we enjoy, we extend our posthumous gratitude and appreciation for his esteemed patriotism.
Another source of pride for John was found in his longstanding work history. Employed by the automotive giant, the Ford Motor Company, he spent over 30 years doing his part to make a difference, and to help produce some of the finest that the Motor Capital had to offer. Yet for as hard as he liked to work, John was also known for how he liked to play,...which almost always involved the water. Whether he was out on one of the many boats he Captained over the years, or just livin' the dream with his fishing pole in hand, John had learned how to master that relaxing thing.
As for some of his other pleasures, John will be fondly remembered for his love of debating,...something else he mastered along the way. An avid fan of conversational competition, John had a way with words and often used them to support his argument. Quite the activity for the more cerebral of our species, John was extremely adept in his research, planning and delivery of the "topic du jour." John was also known for his love of the casinos, and his desire to give Ol' Lady Luck a run for her money. Between the exhilaration of the environment and engaging in a game of chance, the casino afforded him an opportunity to soak it all in,...and perhaps, walk away a winner.
But of all that attracted his attention in life, none could have been sweeter than the joys he found in his precious family and friends. It was they who put a smile on his face,...a skip in his step,...and a wonderful reason to live life to the fullest. A loving husband, father and grandfather, John leaves a legacy of love that will be treasured always, and a storehouse of cherished memories to be embraced with each reflection shared. He will be missed beyond expression and loved beyond measure.
In addition to John's family and friends he also enjoyed and appreciated the amazing neighbors he had been blessed with for many years. John had always said these people aren't just my neighbors they are family. Whether it was Stacy Buckner, Teresa Viers or Justina French coming over with food for him or offering to do some household chores, or the kindness of Matt Buckner, Robert Viers, Tim French and Bob helping him around the house and yard. He even just enjoyed having good ol' conversation with any of them and they'd always take the time to stay and chat. Not many get blessed with neighbors, or should I say Angel's, even coming close to being half the blessing they have always been to John.
John was the beloved husband of the late Virginia. Dear father of Michelle Jones, and the late Richard Pettit - Goryl. Loving grandfather of Lisa (Fiancé, Kirk Davis) Goryl, Elizabeth Jones, Joel, Rikki, Izaak, and Georgia. Dear brother of Helene Novick.
Visitation for John will be held Thursday from 3-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd.) in Warren. His Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, 11:00 am at funeral home. Officiating the service will be Deacon Paul Stevens.
