

John Sobodos age 81 of Sterling Heights, and formerly of Detroit died Monday, July 15th, at Medilodge Nursing Home of Sterling Heights. John was born in Detroit and lived most of his life in Detroit. He attended and graduated from Detroit Public Schools. After his schooling he entered the military and served in the United States Army during World War II, while enlisted he married his sweetheart Emily and lived in Arkansas for a short time. After his wartime service John went to work for Chrysler Motors in their Security department where he would work for over 38 years before his retirement. John was a Union man for the UPGWA Union, a union man through and through and was active as a committee man and on the contract bargaining board. John always enjoyed telling a good story with his coworkers and having a good laugh too. John was an avid bowler and the perennial Secretary Treasurer of the old Guard's bowling league. He also collected stamps, coins, and had a vast record collection. John Sobodos enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, primarily playing cards at every chance Family was his focus in life when he was not working. His children remember the tobogganing, apple picking and the vacations to a cabin somewhere every year He and his family would drive either across the country or visit one of the United States. Sometimes visiting his brother in California. Mr. Sobodos visited every state in the Union. Also, John and his wife Emily traveled the world, visiting many exotic locations such as Russia, China, Australia, Egypt, and much of Europe. They also enjoyed taking many cruises together. When John was home he tended to his flowers in the garden, especially his favorite pansies. John was a widower from his beloved wife Emily, and is survived by his loving children James (Janet) Sobodos, Nancy Kacprzak, and Edward (Margaret) Sobodos. He is also survived by his six grandchildren; Michelle, Mark, Brian, Kevin, Scott, and Katy, and his brother George (Ann Sobodos). Visitation for Mr. Sobodos will be Tuesday July 17th, from 2-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11:00 am at the funeral home. Officiating the funeral will be Rev. Fr. Donald Sopiak. Interment will be in Resurrection cemetery.
