

Leonard Stanley Gondek, 85, a longtime resident of Warren, died Friday, May 08, 2009 at Cambridge Nursing Home in Madison Heights. Leonard was born January 24, 1924 in Hamtramck, Michigan, the son of the late Thomas Gondek and the late Aniela (nee: Hajdas) Gondek. Mr. Gondek was raised in Hamtramck and attended St. Ladislaus High School until he was called to serve his country during World War II. Leonard served in the United States Army and survived the Battle of the Bulge. He also was a proud disabled veteran receiving a Purple Heart Medal. After his military service Mr. Gondek worked for over 30 years in the printing industry as a typesetter for Michigan Typesetting and also Central Typesetting. Mr. Gondek and his late wife were both faithful and devoted founding members of St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Warren. He served as an usher and helped with many of the church functions. Leonard was also an avid woodworker, hunter, and card player. Mr. Gondek was the beloved husband of the late Irene. He is the dearest father of Patricia (John) Bayagich, Gerald (Trisha) Gondek, and loving grandfather of Amanda, Megan, Maura, Evan, and Spencer. Visitation for Mr. Gondek will be Monday from 3-9 pm with an evening Rosary service at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover at Common (12 Mile). Mr. Gondek will lie in state Tuesday 10 a.m. at St. Sylvester Catholic Church until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Please share memories at Mr. Gondeks guest book.
