Leonard Vincent Wineski, age 84 of Warren, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015, surrounded by his loving family, at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren. He was born January 29, 1931 in Hamtramck, son of the late Vincent and the late Mary (nee: Fritz) Wineski.Spending the lion's share of his working career with the City of Warren, Leonard was quite proud that his dedicated service earned him the esteemed title of Chief Building Inspector,…a position achieved through immense care and strong work ethics on his part. When he wasn't working, his earlier years were filled with the pleasures of Michigan's up north country,…specifically the Beaverton area where the family's cabin was often a welcomed weekend escape. Exchanging the concrete jungle for the pristine and natural splendor of the Mitten's backwoods beauty brought Leonard all kinds of joy and happiness. In his later years, it was all about heading south to the Sunshine State,…exchanging the wintry environment for the warmth and kinship of his fellow Snowbird's. Though the warmth would have been reason enough to head south to his condo in Lakeland, the added pleasure of being so close to the action for the Detroit Tiger's Spring Training made it that much more appealing. As well was the opportunity of watching the minor league, the "Flying Tigers" compete at the camp, too. Their youthfulness provided countless hours of fun and entertainment for this Tigers Fan. And "fan" was a bit of a strong word as a chuckle was always enjoyed when considering that Leonard's fandom was directly related to their winning record.Another of Leonard's favorite pastimes was enjoyed on the St. Clair River watching the freighters make their way up and down the waterway. There was just something majestic in watching them navigate their journey,…especially as close as they were between the coastlines of the U.S. and Canada. It was as if you could just reach out and touch them.Leonard will also be remembered for something a bit unique,…his passion for pasta, preferably "spaghetti." For those who truly knew the essence of this man, they'll attest to his "need of the noodle." Spaghetti was his preferred delicacy, something he could have eaten at every meal if given the opportunity. Another of Leonard's passions was wrapped up in his love of music. Whether he was listening to it, dancing to it, or playing his clarinet to it,…you could rest assured, he was "doing it" to it with "style." Though any musical genre could tickle his ear, it was the Polka's that generated the most interest and energy for Leonard. Being of Polish descent, he grew up in an environment where it's been quipped,…you learn to Polka before you walk. Leonard was truly a "people person" who impacted countless lives with his love and care, and leaves behind a storehouse of memories for all to embrace who were blessed to know him and be touched by him. And nobody knows that more than his dear family,…especially those precious cherubs, his beloved grandchildren. The world is a bit less bright through his loss, but Heaven just gained another star,…and a new Guardian Angel is there for his treasured loved ones. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Leonard was the beloved husband of LaVera (nee: Weber). Dearest father of Debbie (Ken) Sisco, Terri (Ed) Perkins, and Leonard Jr.(Armettie) Wineski. Loving grandfather of Nichole, Renee, Ken Jr., Michelle, Eric, Paul, Jennifer, Leonard III, Tina, Veronica, and great-grandfather of Brendin, Kyle, Tyler, Talya, Andrew, Aimee, Dylan, Alexis, Jacob, Hunter, Ryder, Ashlea, Cassidy, Christopher, Brianna, Mason, Camryn, Allison, Madison, Isabel, and Noah. Brother of Vincent "Lefty"(Elaine), the late Ed (Ceal), and the late Eleanor (Victor) Kay. Visitation for Leonard will be held on Saturday, July 25th from 2-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. His Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Sunday, July 26th at the funeral home, with Military Honors to follow. Graveside Services & Interment will take place at 11:00 am on July 27th at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan.Memorial donations are welcomed to the family.
