Marion David Layman, age 82 of Warren, died Monday, July 6, 2015. He was born November 28, 1932 in Owensboro, Kentucky, son of the late David and the late Ardelle (nee: Adams) Layman. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Marion for his service to our country as a soldier in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. He was a decorated veteran with his most prominent being the coveted Bronze Star. For the call to duty he so proudly served, we extend our posthumous gratitude for his bravery and patriotism, and his willingness to stand in harm's way for the furtherance of freedom. Following his return stateside, Marion eventually landed a position in the steel industry where he worked as a steel burner, a job that became his career and spanned over 40 years. After serving with much dedication and loyalty, Marion accepted his well-deserved retirement and began his new line of work,…enjoying the finer things of life. One of those finer things was enjoyed each time he casted his line down at a favorite fishing hole in search of the "Big One." There was just something peaceful and serene about the whole fishing experience, and Marion took advantage of it every chance he could. Another of his favorite pastimes was spent in the garden. He loved tilling the soil and pouring his own style of tender-loving-care into nurturing its growth,…and, of course, taking pride in the fruits of his labors.Marion was also quite a health conscious person who believed in taking care of his body. For an exercise regimen, he climbed on his bicycle and peddled 8 miles each day to keep in shape,…something he enjoyed until just recently. And not merely conscious of his health, he was also mindful of those less fortunate and possessed quite a charitable and compassionate heart towards the homeless population. On many occasions, Marion could often be found paying them a visit,…and even extending them gifts as an outpouring of his giving spirit. He was truly a remarkable man.But his greatest outpouring was that extended towards his precious grandchildren. They were the apple of his eye and always gave his heart reason to rejoice. Each time they were together was like another slice of heaven to be enjoyed here on earth,…moments to be cherished for a lifetime.A loving husband, father and grandfather, Marion leaves a treasure trove of memories to be embraced by all those whose lives were touched by his goodness and care. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Marion was the beloved husband of the late Dolores. Loving father of John Layman, Michael (Beverly) Layman, Doreen Szydlowski and Darlene (Paul) Bernier. Brother of the late Betty King. Beloved grandfather of D.J. (Megan) Szydlowski, Joy (Jeremy) Collins, Mary (Bill) Penrod, Nathan (Renee) Morgan, Nick (Sarah) Plumer, and William Layman. Cherished great-grandfather of Joshua Collins, Savannah Collins, & Bridget Plumer. A private family visitation has been held. Arrangements were entrusted to D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd.) in Warren. Please share memories of Marion at his memory book above.
