Mark Kono Evanoff, age 64 of Warren, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2021 in the peacefulness of his home. He was born February 14, 1957 in Detroit, the beloved son of Marie Ann (nee: Arpino), and the late John Kono Evanoff.
For many people they’re at their happiest when they’re working, and that certainly defines the life of Mark Evanoff. Considered by some to be a workaholic, Mark simply loved keeping busy and appreciated every opportunity of working off that bundle of energy that surged through his veins. He possessed a high level of work ethics and was known for putting in a considerable amount of hours on the job at Arlo Steel where he was employed as a laborer for many years. When he wasn’t on the job, he simply transferred all of that unbound energy and work ethos to his residence where, it seemed, he was forever in the middle of renovating his digs. With a vast amount of knowledge at his disposal, there wasn’t much that Mark couldn’t do,…and he was just the kind of guy who would tackle most any project put in his path.
But of all the work he did, being his mother’s caregiver was reigned supreme. Mark loved his Mom,…and when life became more challenging for her, he stepped up to the plate and swang with all he had in meeting her needs. Whatever she needed, Mark was there to get it done.
Yet for as much as Mark poured into working, he also knew how to inject balance to it all through the pastimes he enjoyed…which, as for most guys, included a bit of sporting action. And right there towards the top was his favorite, the iconic Detroit Red Wings. Being a fan for many years now, he had joined the rest of us Hockeytown fans in riding the waves of both the Thrill of Victory…and the agony of defeat. Yet he stayed “true blue” to his boys in the winged wheel and followed them passionately. As for participating, Mark’s sports resume was highlighted by his love of bowling and golf. With bowling covering his earlier years, and golf enjoyed throughout his life, he was never at a loss for that wonderful mix of entertainment & exercise.
Mark will also be fondly remembered for possessing a collector’s heart. With his tastes ranging from that of humor to sports memorabilia, Mark’s home was like a little museum of the various “treasures” he had accrued over the years, items that brought him immense happiness and pleasure,…baubles he was always glad to display and share with others.
Yet for the most part, all will remember Mark for being quite the private kind of guy. He possessed a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back, yet was happiest to remain incognito and under the radar.
A loving son, brother and uncle, Mark leaves behind a warm & wonderful legacy of love to be embraced by all who were blessed to know him and be loved by him. He touched a multitude of hearts and souls in his journey this side of Heaven, may he now enjoy the blessings on the other side as he rests safely in the arms of God. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally.
Beloved son of Marie, and the late John Evanoff. Dearest brother of Sharon (Gary) Weiss, Nicholas (Lynn) Evanoff, John (Kim) Evanoff, Jeanette (Jerry) Yatooma, and the late David (Josie) Evanoff. Mark is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home in Warren, Michigan.
