Marvin L. Strzyzewski, age 79 of Warren, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He was born May 27, 1931 in Detroit, the son of the late Louis and the late Cecelia (nee: Lewandowski) Strzyzewski. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Marvin for his 4 years of service to our country during the Korean War. As part of the U.S. Air Force, he achieved the rank of Staff Sargaent and was proud to do his part in protecting & preserving the freedoms and liberties we enjoy today. Following the war years, Marvin was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served both as Chaplain and Commander of Tutro Post #4644. He was very proud of his VFW brotherhood and enjoyed every opportunity they were given to spend together. Marvin was employed as an Engineer with the General Motors Corporation where he extended 30 years of dedicated service until his retirement. Along with the responsibilities of his automotive employment, his life was filled with the additional efforts and calling that he answered through his work in the church. For 54 years, he was actively involved in the parish at St. Clement. Marvin was ordained as a Deacon in the Catholic Church on October 17, 1992, and was committed to serving the Deaconate Program of the Archdiocese of Detroit and the parishes of both St. Anne in Warren and St. Clement in Center Line. He was a proud member of the Parish Council, an integral part in counseling the Pre-Marriage group, and worked closely with many of the new deacons. Marvin's call to ministry was a big part of his life, and held importance that permeated his entire being. He touched an immeasurable amount of hearts and lives, and the compassion he extended was a blessing to all. When Marvin wasn't working or ministering, he enjoyed dabbling with photography. Though not a professional, he still loved to capture the beauty of life through the lens of a camera. He also enjoyed doing a little fishing, especially for Walleye on the St. Clair River. But of all his favorite pasttimes, none were more precious and treasured than the times he got to spend with his grandchildren. They were the apples of his eye, and a huge reason for which to give thanks to God. The moments they shared together were the memories created to last a lifetime. The legacy of love that Marvin leaves, in all the lives he impacted, is strong & true. He will be missed immensely, but remembered eternally. Beloved husband of Gertrude "Trudy" for 59 years. Dear father of James (Carol), Nancy, Marvin (Kathleen), Michael, Maria (Mark) Shadbolt, and the late Carol Strzyzewski. Adored grandfather of David, Ian, Mary, Lauren, Theresa, and Greyson. Brother of Delphine (George) Kunnath. Predeceased by sister's, Sylvia (Comfort) Parent and Dolores Stewart. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Marvin will be on Monday, September 20th from 3-9pm, with a 7pm Scripture Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. He will lie in state on Tuesday from 9:30am until the time of Mass at 10:30am at St. Clement Catholic Church, 8075 Ritter Avenue in Center Line. Officiating the Mass will be Rev. Fr. Larry Zurawski. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan. Please share memories of Marvin at his guest book.
