Mary N. Beltz, age 82 of Warren, died Sunday, December 25, 2011 at the Autumn Woods Health Care Facility in Warren. She was born on March 4, 1929 in Detroit, the daughter of the late John and the late Sophia (nee: Trznadel) Cottec.Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, a lady who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. One of her favorite daily pleasures was realized through her afternoon escape with a warm cup of tea, a moment in the day that was often treasured and sought after for the quiet release it provided. And those times were even more special when she was blessed to share them with her dear friends. You could often find them sipping their favorite blend and sharing the gift of friendship's conversation together,'and it made life sweet. She was also noted for her penchant with garage sales, especially if they were in walking distance from home. Always on the lookout for a good deal or that elusive bargain, Mary was proud of her status as Garage Sale Maven and could work them like a champ. The simple pleasure of gardening was equally treasured to Mary. She loved the beauty and rewards that her efforts wrought with the flowers she tended to with the utmost in tender-loving-care. Not only for herself, she was always cognizant of the beauty her flowers were providing her dear friends and neighbors. Another of her favorite things to do was wrapped around the joy of shopping. Whether it was heading to the expansiveness of the mall or scoping out a little hideaway store on the unbeaten path, Mary found great delight in the shopping experience, both big and small. But of all the shopping prowess she exuded, there was no greater exemplification of her passion than that of her trips to the card shops. Her family recalls how her car just couldn't pass a Hallmark store without her stopping in. But there was a reason for her passion as Mary was renowned to many as the 'Card Queen.' She loved sending cards to family and friends, and there wasn't an occasion that slipped her grasp. And sometimes, an occasion wasn't even necessary. Her love and kindness was often, and regularly, poured out through the greeting cards that adorned the many mailboxes of those who had touched her heart and life. But of all the passions that enveloped her life, none were more special than the passion she held for her beloved family,'especially when it came to her cherished grandchildren. Whether for the birthday or the holiday celebrations that meant the world to her, or the simple pleasure of that precious individual time with a dear one,'there was never a question or mystery about Mary's deep devotion for her family. She touched many-a-heart along her pathway in life, and leaves to each of them a legacy of love that is as unique and genuine as the lady she was known to be. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally. She was the beloved wife of Fred. Dear mother of Nancy (Chris) Stonehouse, and 'other mother' of Sharon (Jerry) Mikolas and Donna Knapp. Grandmother of Gabriela Stonehouse, Natalie Stonehouse, Melanie (Albert Angeles) Mikolas, Dayna Mikolas, Heather Mikolas, Scott Miller, and Kelly Miller. Also survived by great-grandchildren, Hugh and Miles. Sister of Catherine Oprian, the late Anne Misaras, Pat (Mario) D'Antonio, the late Sophie Hauswirth, Jerry (Carol) Cottec, the late John (the late Jean) Cottec, and the late Dorothy Dukich.
