Mary Patricia Kane, age 92, died Friday, May 28, 2021 at American House – Freedom Place in Roseville, Michigan. She was born July 2, 1928 in Detroit, daughter of the late Patrick and the late Veronica (nee: Kowalcik) Mullen.
Mary was a young 19 year old woman when she walked down the aisle and into the arms of her beloved Robert, a budding romance that led them to the altar of marriage and the beginning of their lives together as husband & wife. Their vows were shared on May 28, 1948,…exactly 73 years from their presence together on the altar to their presence together in Heaven. And if you are a romanticist, the question could be posed,…did Robert reach down from above to bring them together in love once again? No matter how you look at it, there is something uniquely interesting about the date similarities. In fact, it’s the stuff that love stories are made of.
Though both were career people, they shared a common passion for travel and did so on a worldwide scope. They coveted each opportunity of experiencing sights unseen and adding to their travel portfolio with each trip they took. But between their travels was work, and for Mary that meant heading downtown to J.L. Hudson’s where she was employed as a clerk. Of course, this was back in the day when Hudson’s was a bustling and thriving retail giant that garnered a great deal of shopper’s on any given day, and there was Mary with her warm and inviting smile to help the customer’s with her own brand of service excellence. She was highly regarded and often sought after by many of her repeat clientel.
When she was away from the job, down time and days off were often enjoyed taking in a Detroit Tigers baseball game or a Detroit Lions football game. But the real fun was had each time she grabbed her clubs and headed for the golf course. Little is more enjoyable than spending a sunny day on the links,…unless it’s being shared with a loved one or friend. Always in search of that elusive Hole-in-One, each swing of the clubs came with immense anticipation and eagerness,…an energy that Mary ate up in spades.
Mary will also be remembered for her prowess in the kitchen, especially when it came to her mouthwatering Spaghetti. Some may argue about the simplicity of the dish, but Mary must have poured something other-worldly into the process of her preparation,…and the end result simply made your taste buds dance with delight.
Being quite devout in her Catholic faith, Mary revered her Lord and was a faithful attendee at Mass. When in the Warren area, St. Mark Catholic Church was her house of prayer and worship. For the times she spent up in the Mt. Pleasant area, Sacred Heart Catholic Church is where she called home. Whether north or south, she had it covered. And for as devoted as she was to church, that same devotion was seen each moment she was afforded with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were truly her gifts from God, and she treasured each of them like gold. Family meant everything to Mary, and their love was coveted above all else. From the eldest child to her youngest great-grandchild, Mary was blessed beyond expression by the love and compassion that surrounded her and lifted her spirits. Mary leaves a storehouse of wonderful memories to be embraced by all who were blessed to know her and be loved by her. She touched a multitude of hearts and souls in her journey through life and impacted many lives through her kindness and care. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Robert. Dear mother of Timothy (the late Carrol) Kane, Maureen (Allen Goldenberg) Fowler, Terrance Kane, and Margaret (Michael) Rivera. She was the loving grandmother of Tara (Scott), Gregory, Collin, Aynsley (Casper), the late Amy, the late Michael, and great-grandmother of Caitlin, Jordan, Kane, Cassidy, Tanner, Samuel, Jaden, and Logan.
