It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Konye, who passed away peacefully at the age of 100 on April 25, 2025. Mary was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be missed dearly by all who survive her.
Born in 1924, Mary was a hardworking and dedicated woman, known for her many years as a meat wrapper at Chatham’s. Outside of work, Mary’s life was filled with simple pleasures and a love for family. She shared many fond memories with her late husband, George Konye, especially their frequent visits to Big Boys, where they enjoyed meals together. Mary loved dining out with family and friends, finding joy in the company of those she held dear.
Mary’s interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. Mary had a soft spot for her dog Angel, a cherished poodle who brought her much joy. She was also an avid reader, particularly of Danielle Steel novels, and looked forward to whenever a new book came out. Mary was a lifelong fan of Betty Boop and proudly collected different memorabilia. As a sports fan, Mary loved cheering for her favorite team, the Tigers. In her free time, Mary enjoyed visiting places such as their cottage at Houghton Lake. Family trips to Boblo Island and Frankenmuth, as well as visits to local polka festivals, were highlights of her life. At these festivals, Mary loved listening to German music and enjoying the delicious food, with her favorite band being Big Daddy and the La De Das.
A member of St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families parish, Mary had a deep connection to her faith and community. Her love for her family, her joyful spirit, and her gentle nature will be remembered by all who knew her.
