Mary Lou grew up in Hamtramck, where she attended Our Lady Help of Christians and graduated from St. Ladislaus High School. She went on to Hamtramck Barber College, where she earned her barber license, and later received her cosmetology license from the David Presley School of Cosmetology. She began her career at Golden Night Hair Design before embracing one of the most meaningful roles of her life—being a devoted stay-at-home mother.
On May 25, 1984, Mary Lou married the love of her life, Paul, and together they shared 42 wonderful years of marriage built on love, faith, and unwavering devotion. Her faith and her family were the cornerstones of her life. She was an active member and volunteer at Transfiguration Parish, where she found joy in serving others and living out her deep compassion.
Mary Lou had a heart for helping people. She was always there for anyone in need, serving as a caregiver to her parents and looking out for her neighbors with genuine care and concern. She had a special gift for making people feel seen, loved, and valued, often bringing smiles to those around her with her warm and personable nature.
She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—reading, going to the theater and enjoying musicals, bargain shopping, and playing games like Yahtzee with her family and coloring with the kids. She loved cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events and loved attending all their school events. She especially treasured time spent Up North in Traverse City and Houghton Lake, where she loved watching the sunsets with those she loved most. Above all, Mary Lou cherished her family. She will be remembered always for her kindness, her faith, and the love she so freely gave—forever held in the hearts of those she touched.
Mary Lou was the beloved wife of Deacon Paul Stevens. Loving mother of Christen Stevens and Rosemary (Paul) Osantowski. Adored grandmother of Austin and Adeline Osantowski. Dear sister of Kathy Kustowski. She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Eleanor Kustowski, her brother Edward Kustowski and her Baby Angel.
