Melvin C. Sarver, age 76 of Warren, died Monday, October 12, 2009 at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren He was born in Detroit on October 20, 1932, son of the late Melvin and the late Marie (nee: Belanger) Sarver. We pay homage to Melvin for the call to duty he proudly answered in effecting the cause for freedom during the Korean War. He served our country, honorably, as a member of the United States Marine Corp. By trade, Melvin was a Tool & Die Maker who extended his dedication and hard-work ethics as an employee with Chrysler. He gave the company over 30 years of loyal service until the time of his retirement. When not clocked in on the job, Melvin's work was still not done. He was a real estate landlord, and also known by all as the consummate handyman. There just wasn't a thing he couldn't fix. Melvin's handiwork was also realized in the backyard garden he produced and nurtured, a project he shared with his wife, Doreen. When he wasn't working, Melvin had his pleasurable escapes. He loved to bowl, and had a passion for golf. Golf was so important to him that he fabricated his own set of clubs. But his favorite escape was visiting the racetrack and betting on the horses. From his earliest experiences of sharing "the running of the horses" with his Dad at age 14 to the present, Melvin's appreciation and excitement for the sport never waned. He was a thoroughbred racing fan. If there was a track nearby, he was there! Beloved husband of Doreen. Loving father of Larry (Lynn), Susie (John) Windel, Sally (Chris) Hass, and Mel (Monica). Dear stepfather of Michael (Roberta) Guignion and Shelly (Pat) McAneeley. Brother of Mary Jane Gressman, and uncle of John. Also survived by many grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by former wife, Helen (nee: Danastrin). Visitation for Melvin will be on Wednesday, October 14 from 3-9pm, with a 6pm Scripture Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. His funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are appreciated, in Melvin's name, to the Michigan Humane Society. Please share memories of Melvin at his guest book.
