

Michael P. Gutierrez, age 91, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 26, 1934 in Detroit, the son of Manuel and Rita (Luna) Gutierrez. Cherished husband of Janice (Rassey) Gutierrez for 47 years. Proud father of Michele (the late Mike) McCarthy, Matthew (Lisa) Gutierrez, Denise (John) Kowalski, Nicole (Bryan) Cameron and the late Christine (Cliff) Mixen. Loving grandfather of Michael McCarthy, Olivia Roedding, Matthew Mixen, Camille Gutierrez, Luke Gutierrez, Mary Mixen and Aaron Gutierrez. Beloved brother of Ralph (Virginia) Gutierrez, Manuel (Maggie) Gutierrez, sister-in-law Amy (the late Andy) Gutierrez; predeceased by siblings Lupe (Lucy) Arredondo, Manuel (Linda) Arredondo and Aurora (Mike) Jimenez. Treasured in-law of Sharon (the late Joe) Najor, George (Donna) Rassey and Rick (Michele) Rassey. Respected step-grandfather of Bryan (Kayla) Cameron Jr., Kevin Cameron, Brett (Samantha) Cameron. Adored by many nephews, nieces and step-great-grandchildren.
Michael spent the majority of his career at the General Motors Tech Center in Warren, Michigan, retiring from GM in 1997 after decades of dedicated service. Beyond his profession, he was well-known for his sense of humor and lifelong passion for handball-a love he proudly passed down to his son and grandsons, creating a lasting family tradition. He was incredibly handy and resourceful-there wasn't a tool he didn't have or know how to use-and he was always ready to lend a helping hand, especially when someone needed assistance with work around the house. His generosity and willingness to help others made a lasting impression on friends, neighbors, and family alike. Michael also possessed a well-known fondness of sweets and rarely turned down a good dessert.
For Michael, family was first - he deeply valued spending time with them. While he wasn't a world traveler, he enjoyed vacationing with his family as often as he could, creating meaningful memories along the way. He treasured family get-togethers and was truly content when loved ones were gathered.
Visitation Saturday, April 4 at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr at Masonic, Warren from 10:00 AM until 12 Noon with a funeral service at 12 Noon.
