Michael Raymond Osterman, age 64 of St. Clair Shores, passed away Monday, June 7, 2021 at Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He was born September 3, 1956 in Detroit, son of the late Donald Raymond and the late Joann Nancy (nee: Legumina) Osterman.
The eldest of six children, Michael was born and raised in Detroit but would ultimately call St. Clair Shores his home. Together with his helpmate, Denise, the two would welcome 3 beautiful children into their lives, Melissa, Michael & Matthew. They were truly the pride of Michael’s life and gave special purpose for caring as deeply as he did. Michael was a very hard worker who applied himself with the utmost in diligence and professionalism in his job at the airport as a Health & Safety Supervisor. He took great satisfaction in a job well done, and always strove to put his family 1st above all else. But for those who truly knew Michael, they’ll attest to the fact that his time “on the job” wasn’t his only source of work,…no, he was also quite renowned for the hat he wore as Mr. Fix-It, too. Always found tinkering around the house on a pet project or something that needed repairs, Michael was the kind of guy who knew his tools,…and knew how to use them as well.
As for some of Michael’s leisure highlights, the coming of baseball season was always a special time of year as that meant the return of his Hometown Homeboys, the Detroit Tigers. There was just something unique and special about that Old English “D” that sparked excitement and nostalgic remembrances for his favorite boys of summer. Win or lose, Michael was always a tried & true fan, and one of their most avid supporters.
Another source of fun around the homestead was experienced each time Michael fired up the BBQ and put his grilling prowess to work. We’ve all heard the term, “a boy and his dog.” But there just has to be something equally compelling when it comes to “a man and his grill.” That’s right,…when Mike lit that flame, you knew that it wouldn’t be long before something tasty and mouthwatering was about to be served. You can just hear Andy Griffith now with his signature, “Mmmm Good!
Still close to home, yet even more treasured, were the bike rides Michael shared with his youngest son, Matthew. Each time they embarked on their 2-wheeled adventures, the bonds that held them close seemed to strengthen and become even more endearing with each trip they took. No matter the distance or the destination, their Father & Son excursions were always the highlight of the day,…and Michael was all about bringin’ the highlights to life!
Then there were those precious escapes that Mike lived for each time he hopped in the car and headed north to some of that “Pure Michigan” we all know and appreciate. Michigan is truly one of the most unique states in our union, and nobody knew that more than Michael. The further he separated himself from the craziness of the concrete jungle, the deeper he was able to look inward and reflect on the peacefulness that calls all of our names,…but often gets lost in “the city.” Perhaps that is why he sought to travel north as often as possible.
Yet of all Michael treasured most, the blessings of family reigned supreme. Spending time in their company was a gift from above, and the memories they amassed were the stuff that dreams are made of. Gone far too soon from our presence, Michael leaves behind an incredible legacy of love and care that we pray will bridge the chasm left by his absence. He touched countless hearts and souls with his unique character and influential presence, yet none-so-much as his beloved family and dear friends. Lastly, Michael was also a cherished Fur Daddy to his puggle, “Josie”, a mix of pug & beagle that provided that special kind of love and comfort of which any & all pet owners can attest. Mike & Josie were definitely pals and she will miss him greatly.
Michael was the beloved husband of Denise. Loving father of Melissa (Ray) Ostrowski, Michael Osterman, and Matthew Osterman. Dear brother of Gail (Bill) Wilson, Ken (Laura) Osterman, D.J. (Marla) Osterman, Elizabeth Bash, and Jason Osterman. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation for Michael will be held Monday, June 14th from 3-9 pm, with a 7pm Funeral & Eulogy Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren.
Memorial donations are welcomed to Special Olympics of Michigan @ Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48859. ([email protected])
