A longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Eastpointe, Opal’s faith was an important part of her life. She was a long time member of the Lutheran Fraternity Organization Local 57. She found her greatest joy in time spent with family, especially camping together “up north.” From summers near North Branch, to years spent at Thousand Trails, and even pulling trailers with Ronald, she deeply loved the peace and beauty of the outdoors. Sitting by the firepit during family bonfires, happily “chit chattin,” brought her the most happiness. When they were at home, Opal loved all animals. As their kids were growing up, they had an eclectic bunch of animals from dogs and cats to skunks, a spider monkey, rabbits, guinea pigs, and Henry the duck.
Opal was creative and talented, lovingly making porcelain dolls and carefully painting each face by hand. She had a fond love for chocolate and the color purple, two staples everyone knew to associate with her.
She spent 20 years living in Florida near Clearwater Beach, but ultimately returned home with her husband Ronald because she missed being close to family. After Ronald’s passing, Opal lived with her daughter Robin for many years, forming a special bond with her grandchildren that meant the world to her. Every holiday was spent with the family with their favorite foods and laughs to share.
Beloved wife of the late Ronald for 55 years. Beloved mom of Pamela (the late John) Rodick, Mark (Christine) Burdick, Robin (Stephen) Brunell, and the late Rhonda Burdick.
