I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I only got to work with Paul a short time here at verstand. I know that words cannot ease the pain of your loss, but as Paul had faith in God, look to Him for the strength that you will need in the days to come.

I want to thank all of those who signed the guestbook and shared their memories and thoughts on my father. He was a very respected man by all those who ever came in contact with him. He was a very peaceful man and just generally the friendliest person to everyone he met. I miss talking to him about everything and anything. Our father-daughter relationship really strengthed in the past few years as I have gotten older, and many people never realized he was my best friend. The person that never judged my actions, and was always waiting with open arms and a smile. The past, almost 5 months, without him have been so hard for me. It's taken a lot of time to realize he isn't comming back. I hope memories of him live on, even when time has healed the wounds of those still mourning. I tell myself that he is now forever at peace, and finally driving his 67' Stingray. I love you Daddy, I miss you.

My deepest condolences to the entire Marcum family. Paul was a very good friend during elementary and junior high school and I believe my fondest memories of those days are due in large part to his friendship. Although he and I have lost touch over the years, I know that I will certainly miss him.

Paul was in some of my jr. high school classes at Hartsig Jr. High. He was very witty and funny and am so sorry to hear of his passing. God bless your family and may he rest in peace.

It was sad to read about the loss of your love one Mr. Marcum. I did not know him but, you can tell he had a family who loved him. The bible offers us hope in a world so full of despair. Their will be a New Heavens and a New Earth ruled by Jesus Christ. No longer will their be death, sickness or pain.(Daniel 2:44 & Revelation 21:1-4) Paul will be their. God Bless your family.

I have had the pleasure of delivering Paul's mail for the past several years. I will miss seeing Paul's smiling face... whether it was greeting me at the mailbox, or a wave while he was walking down Chicago Road. He was a bright spot in my day and will be sorely missed. Dear Faye, Ed, and Family: Although I did not meet Paul, I know his character through knowing his family. And, I can see his dad, Ed, and sister, Faye, in his smile. Likewise, I can "sense" what his humor must have been. It is not ours to know why someone is called away at such a young age. And, the best we can hope for is loss that is much like a rolling fog. "Paul Gets Me Out of a Scrape - part 4" Paul helped me out of that scrape. He helped me out of a lot of scrapes. Big brothers do that, and Paul was exceptional at it. I honestly cannot remember him ever being completely angry at me. He always stayed calm, logical, and ready to see the funny side of a situation. He even told me that day, You know, were going to get a lot of mileage out of this. And we did. We laughed about it a lot, for years! I think hes still laughing about it . . .

I am saddened at the lost of and old friend I have not seen for a long time. I was a classmate of Paul's from Hartsig through Cousino. We had several classes together including drafting. Paul was kind to help me attain a coop job at Verstand Engineering, which was a job I worked through senior year of high school and a couple of years of college. The times I had working at Verstand have had a major impact on my life and taught me strong work ethic skills,which I still use to this day. This because Paul made a kind effort to get me an interview there. I wish his family well in this trying time.

After hearing this very sad news, I have had many thoughts of Paul. They have made me smile over the past few days.I will always treasure them. I will always remember Paul as my first school girl crush, my best friends brother and my very first date.I had a crush on Paul when he was still a chubby kid riding his bike past my house! Once in awhile I would actually get to talk with him at the foot of my driveway:) A few years later, as Faye and I developed what would ultimately be a lifetime friendship, Paul was always there for both of us. He was an awesome big brother to Faye, and to me as well. I remember feeling like such a cool teenager when Faye and I hung out with Paul and his friends. Some fond memories of those times include listening to Led Zeppelin on Friday afternoons at the Marcums, going to concerts, the origination of Pauls infamous Bad Pizza quote, riding in his precious Riviera, his visits up to CMU, and of course, many giggles, laughs and perma-grins. Even more special for me is my memory that Paul was actually my first date! He was very patient with Mr. Os rules, always polite and an absolute gentleman. Paul and I had a special friendship and he will always hold a special place in my heart. I will miss him. I offer my sincere condolences to all of you at this time. Love, Lori

"Paul Gets Me Out of a Scrape - part 1" Id like to share a little story with you about Paul. Youll like this one! One day, Valentines day as a matter of fact, many years ago, I was entrusted for the day with my boyfriends brand new 1979 Pontiac Trans Am. It was parked in the garage at our family home, on Nancy in Warren. Dad had built the house with a nice, wide, 2+ car driveway, and Paul had carefully parked his car behind the right-side garage bay  all the way over to the right, and as far down toward the sidewalk as possible. I thought I could pull the Trans Am out, adjust the angle a few times, and back on out of the driveway. I was careful, believe me! I took my time, knowing what was at stake. But despite my very best efforts, the unthinkable happened. Oooohhhhhhhh . . . nnnnoooooooooooo . . . Baaaad Pizza!

"Paul Gets Me Out of a Scrape - part 3" He asked how bad it was, and I said it was bad  theyd touched each other. He quizzed me about the level of damage: metal torn open? crinkled metal? gouged metal? lightly scratched metal? No, no, no, and I dont know. He asked which car now had the other cars paint on it. He determined from whatever answer I gave him that the Trans Am could most likely be buffed out, and probably no one would ever know it had touched up against his car. I pointed out that the boyfriend was still going to be F U R I O U S, and he said, Tell you what you do. Go on into work, and call him from there. Start out with theres been an accident, but Im okay  I wasnt hurt. When he asks how bad the car is, tell him its pretty bad. Apologize a lot. Oh, and make sure you get him something for Valentines day. Flowers or something. That will help. Good advice from my big brother. I was amazed  it worked like a charm. I was never allowed to drive that car again, but Paul had been right. When you completely screw up, make it sound much worse than it really is, and the reaction will eventually be positive because the wronged person will have had time to imagine the absolute worst, and will be relieved upon actually seeing the damage.

"Paul Gets Me Out of a Scrape - part 2" The two cars scraped together. My effort to adjust the angle after I heard the initial, heart stopping sound of metal on metal just made things worse. I carefully put the Trans Am in park, got out to look at the two cars pressed together, and decided that the best solution was to pull forward. Having done this, I got out again to look at the cars. Oooohhhhhhhh . . . nnnnoooooooooooo . . . Baaaad Pizza! I had just managed to kiss together the cars of two of the most meticulous car owners in the world. I went into the house and called Paul at work. He came on the line in typical Paul style: Hi, Sweetheart! Happy Valentines Day! Paul, I just backed the Trans Am into your blue car in the driveway. Youre kidding! he laughed. Oh, thats okay, Darlin. I dont care much about that car anyway. Its just a spare. Thanks, youre sweet, but what about the Trans Am?????!!!!!!??????
