Perry Joseph Simmons Sr., age 59 of Warren, died Monday, January 9, 2017 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan. He was born October 30, 1957 in Detroit, son of the late Perry S. and the late Kathleen (nee: Rassau) Simmons.A truck driver turned mentor, Perry's work history began as part of the support staff at Erb Lumber where he helped bring their product to market. After years of navigating the highways and byways hauling wood, fate took its course which ultimately led to a new career path,...and unexpected change that opened up doors of opportunity he didn't even see coming. His new work took Perry to the doors of Lincoln High School where he was brought aboard as a Hall Monitor and part of the school's security force. For over 15 years, Perry's friendly countenance and gregarious personality made an inspiring impact upon the hearts of countless students and teachers. Eventually, his duties were expanded when he was invited to join in the school's sports program as their Assistant Athletic Director. Perry was quite proud of his time at Lincoln, as well as helping to make a difference in the lives of many. When it came time for a little pastime enjoyment, hunting season brought Perry some of his greatest pleasures. It often meant packing up the car, making sure all of the hunting supplies were in tow, and heading towards the tip of the thumb to Port Austin. Always in the hunt for the prize winner, Perry simply loved being with his friends and fellow hunters basking in the annual experience. Another way that Perry fed his outdoorsy pleasures was through the joy of camping. Though he could set up camp most anywhere, a couple of his favorite spots were found at Proud Lake and Coldwater.Perry also enjoyed a passion for classic autos and visiting many of the car shows that speckled the state with lots of eye candy for car lovers. And there was another "wheeled vehicle" that caught his attention and fed his passion,...the ever-popular Fire Trucks. Perhaps it was the little boy inside that chose to hold on to that fascination, but don't we all get a bit mesmerized each time a fire truck crosses over path? Yet of all that brought his life joy, there was no matching the love and care that Perry held adoring grandchildren. To be sure, hanging out with family and friends, in general, was always something that meant the world to Perry. But when it came to his dear cherubs, his heart knew no greater excitement nor elation. A life gone far too soon from our presence, Perry leaves behind a storehouse of wonderful memories for all those who were fortunate and blessed to have known him. Perry was the beloved husband of Susan. Dear father of Thomas Simmons, Perry (Amber) Simmons, and Tracey (DeAngelo) Harrison. Cherished brother of Elizabeth, Helen, Patricia, Debbie, and loving grandfather of six.Visitation for Perry will be held on Thursday, January 12th from 3-9 pm at the D.S.
