

Raymond Robert Schimke, age 74 of St. Clair Shores, died Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Village of East Harbor Care Facility in New Baltimore. Mr. Schimke was born January 14, 1932 in Bismarck, North Dakota the son of the late Daniel Schimke and the late Matilda (nee: Knopp) Schimke. Mr. Schimke was raised the youngest of 11 siblings in Harvey North Dakota. He graduated high school in Harvey and was an all city basketball player. After high school he entered the Army and served stateside during the Korean War. Following his military service he moved to Michigan to take an apprentice position as a wood and model maker for a local automotive job shop. Over the years Ray worked for Visioneering, Ganis, and 10 years at Entech, before finally retiring as a wood and model maker for General Motors, where he would work for over eleven years at the Pontiac Truck and Bus Facility. When Mr. Schimke was not working, he loved to bowl. He bowled in and volunteered his efforts for Tournament for the Heart bowling fundraiser. Also as an active member of Redeemer Baptist Church in Warren, Mr. Schimke coached softball for the girls team, womens team, and the mens team. He also enjoyed golfing or traveling to northern Michigan with his son Ron. Mr. Schimke was a homebody, enjoying staying at home with his wife and family or spending time with his grandchildren. Family was most important to him. Over the years he would take many trips back to North Dakota to see his siblings and their families. Mr. Schimke is survived by his daughter Cheryl (David) Sonnenberg, and his nephew whom he raised as a son, Ron (Pamela) Sergeichik. His grandchildren, Amber & Jeremy Sonnenberg, and Brian & Natalie Sergeichik. Raymond was the youngest of his siblings; Eugene, Alfred, Arthur, Lenora, Ann, Ella, Marge, Tillie, Lenthina, and Freida. He was preceded in death by his wife Olga. Visitation will be held at D. S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home on Monday from 5-9 P.M. and on Tuesday from 1-9 P.M. Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 17th, 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Officiating the funeral will be Pastor Stephen DeKok. Burial will be at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery.
