

Richard Alan Furby, age 66, died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at his home in Warren. He was born July 5, 1948 in Traverse City, son of the late Donald and the late Margaret (nee Willingham) Furby.Mr. Furby was employed as a contract draftsman for GM. Following his retirement, Richard became interested in antique clocks. He would spend hours in his workship painstakingly restoring these classic time pieces. Richard's wife, Debra bought him a computer a short time ago. It was not long after Richard received his computer that he discovered ebay. The extensive collection of clocks, and their accompanying parts, exploded following his introduction to ebay. Richard was also an avid outdoorsman who was quite passionate about hunting, fishing, and camping.As a small child Richard had a serious illness. This illness would ultimately prevent him from joining the military during the Vietnam War. It was his sincerest wish to serve his country during this sensitive time in our nation's history,...alas, his dreams were dashed. Following his brother Todd's return from the war, the two became members of the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 9 and devoted countless hours to the organizations causes.Richard was the loving husband of Debra, whom he married on June 27, 1998. He was the beloved father of Richard Furby Jr., Carrie (Michael) Metzler, Steven (Elizabeth) Furby, Keith (Stephanie) Furby, Joseph Furby, Samantha Furby, and Jacqueline (Liam Dodas) Cristoforo. Dear brother of Donald (Jean) Furby Jr., Todd (Marsha) Furby, Jean (David) Holt and Judi (Richard) Grady. Cherished grandfather of Bryanna, Mina, Benjamin, Shelby, Lura, Braelyn and Emma.A Memorial Visitation for Richard will be held on Sunday, March 15th from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd.) in Warren.Please share memories of Richard at his memory book above.
