Robert William Faustyn, age 83, died on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in Warren. He was born January 13, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Walter Faustyn and the late Angeline (nee: Hintz) Faustyn.Robert's baptism into adulthood came early when, at the young age of 17 years old, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and joined the ranks of the others supporting our allies during the Korean War era. Serving from 1951 thru 1954, Robert was a proud seaman who took great pride in sharing the vital duties that accompanied his military experience, and did so with the utmost in patriotism and American spirit. So it is, with thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Robert for his time served and honor the sacrifices made and his willingness to stand in harm's way for the cause of freedom. Following his return from the military, Robert's life was on the path to becoming somewhat of a storybook tale as he was blessed to meet a sweet, young gal who would, unknowingly, change his life. What grew into friendship soon became love, and that love led them both to the altar on May 12, 1956 where they shared their vows and began their journey together as husband & wife, Mr. & Mrs. Robert and Gloria Faustyn. Together they built upon the comforts of home & hearth, raised 5 beautiful children, and grew deeper in love with each passing day. It was a love that spanned over 50 wonderful years until Gloria's passing. For those who knew Robert, they will attest to his hard work ethics and how he went the extra mile for the sake of his family. Employed as a Food Broker within the grocery industry, his "day job" kept him busy and called upon the finer points of his knowledge and expertise. But his family will also share how Robert worked multiple jobs in an effort to provide in special ways for his loved ones and their needs. And if "official" work wasn't enough, then came the outpouring of his charitable heart through the many ways he volunteered his time and efforts to make a difference. From various sporting events, church, the Booster Club, the Knights of Columbus and St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren, Robert gave of himself both unselfishly and unconditionally in helping to better the lives around him as he answered the call of his heart. When he wasn't engaged working or volunteering, Robert enjoyed a number of fun and entertaining pastimes that made all that work worthwhile. If he was looking to exercise his more active side, you'd often find him swingin' the clubs in search of that elusive Hole-in-One. He truly enjoyed the game of golf and nothing could beat the pleasures of a sunny day on the links, especially shared with a friend. Dancing was another of his favorites. There's just something special about holding your favorite girl in your arms as the two of you stride along the dance floor in sync with the music,…and of course with each other. Robert could cut-a-rug with the best of them, and that special dance partner of his always made his lead appear flawless. Then there was his love for boating, a pastime that called his name often and afforded him countless nautical memories of moments and friendships shared while traversing the many inviting waters of the Great Lakes state. Still enjoying the lake, but this time from ashore, Robert was a fiercely passionate concert-goer when it came to the bands that performed at Metropolitan Beach. Listening to good music while soaking up the visual splendor of a major Mitten waterway had Robert's name written all over it,…and he visited often. More inland pleasures included his love of traveling. Robert loved escaping the commonalities of Macomb County for the beauty and scenic highlights that awaited him in chairs and destinations beyond the norm. Sometimes it meant revisiting old favorites that never grew old,…and at times the winds would escort him to new and exciting venues that helped to fill his senses and make new memories of the vast world in which we live. Then there was Robert's fascination with the other lady in his life,…"Ol' Lady Luck"…with whom he loved to give a run for her money. We'll simply chalk it up to one of those "destinations revisited" that brought him immense joy and excitement, the trips he made to the casinos. The return on his investment may not have always panned out for Robert,…but the fun, laughter and glamour of the casino experience came with a reward that money just couldn't buy. Of course, hitting it big isn't all that shabby either. And speaking of laughing,…if you were in a crowded room and you heard an uproarious, loud laugh break out, there wasn't even a second guess,…you knew it was Robert. His laughter was booming, yet it peeled through your heart with a resonance that defined happy and caused your soul to swell with goodness and all that is right. After all, "laughter is the best medicine," right? Yet nobody can deny that this laughter was balanced with a good dose of mischievousness and a tad of misbehaving as well. Though it was always meted out in good natured fun, Robert had that "other side" which gave his family and friends fits & starts on occasion,…but forever followed up by that beautiful, LOUD laugh that just drew you in. But of all the moments and memories that will bring a smile and chuckle to the hearts and minds of those that knew and loved Robert, a simple reflection of him slapping a Gift Bow to his forehead and parading around like a proud peacock is sure to quicken everything from a slight grin to laughter that'll have you wetting your drawers. And that is just the kind of guy Robert was to all, a loveable clown who would give you the shirt off his back without question. For over 50 years, Robert was blessed with a wonderful woman with whom he shared his heart and soul,…the girl from his youth, his blushing bride, the mother of his children, and the woman God truly provided as his helpmate. But Gloria's absence left a chasm that only God could span, so he built a bridge to the heart of a special lady in Robert's life of late, his dear friend, Dotty Rogers. Companions, no matter how or from where they come, bring a sense of belonging and meaning to life, and Robert considered himself blessed to share the last few years he had with Dotty.Yet without a doubt, life's most incredible and immeasurable blessings came in the form of family, and the bonds they shared meant the world to Robert. He was truly a "Family Man" and a devoted father beyond what words can adequately express. He made life fun, interesting, and always memorable. The legacy of love that Robert leaves will be forever cherished with each remembrance that draws him close. Whether working, volunteering or playing, Robert touched a multitude of hearts and souls in his journey through life and made a positive and everlasting impact on too many to count. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Robert was the beloved husband of 50+ years to the late Gloria. Loving father of David (the late Jan), Diane (Jim) Chinzi, Daniel (Denise), Donald (Franca), and the late Douglas Faustyn. Devoted grandfather of Nathan, Christopher, Kari, Gail, Tyler, and Hannah. Brother of Phyllis, and the late Norman, Leonard, Mildred, Delphine, and Elaine. Dear friend of Dotty. He was also survived by many nephews and nieces. Visitation for Robert will be held on Sunday, January 14th from 5:00-9:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Scripture Service, at the D.S.
