Roy Mason Tatge, 87 of Warren, died Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Ascension St. John Hospital in Warren, Michigan. Roy was born March 8, 1933 in Eldon, Missouri, son of the late Marvin Tatge and the late Edna (nee: Harbison) Tatge.
Roy’s early years were spent in different parts of the United States until his family settled in Highland Park, Michigan where Roy graduated from Highland Park High School, the graduating class of 1952. Following high school Roy enrolled at Highland Park Community College until he was called to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay tribute to Roy for his service to our country from 1953 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1955.
Following his military service, Roy returned home and resumed his work in the automotive industry. He married the love of his life, Gretchen Johnson on January 28, 1955 at Peace Lutheran Church in Detroit. Five years following their nuptials, Roy and Gretchen moved north to the Upper Peninsula where they owned and operated their family store in Big Bay until 1983 when they returned downstate to Warren, Michigan.
Roy again returned to the automotive industry working for RCO Tool & Die until his retirement. When Roy was not working, he loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to run his German Shorthairs in Field Trials, along with deer and bird hunting. Later in life he found an additional hobby that evolved into professional quilting.
Roy cherished his wife and family, and enjoyed all the family gatherings spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will forever be missed by all whose lives he touched.
