Shirley was born in Jasper, Alabama and moved to Highland Park, Michigan when she was in the first grade. She eventually moved to Hazel Park where she attended high school. Later in life, she went on to live in Sterling Heights. In 1958, Shirley married the love of her life, Allen. The two owned multiple business throughout their lives, a lawn spraying business from 1960-1982 and ABQ Catering until 2004, retiring at 69-years-old. She spent the last of her golden years at Riverside Senior Living in Utica where she joined the Pioneer Club for senior entertainment and enjoyed her time with her new friends.
Shirley was an active member at First Presbyterian Church of Warren since 1972 where she served as a Deacon and as a member of the Women’s Association. Shirley was deep in her faith and lived life as God taught us-to be kind to others. She loved to cook, travel, was an avid reader of novels, a foodie (she loved going out to eat), and up to date on the latest fashion. More than anything, Shirley loved spending time with her family and keeping up holiday traditions every year. Shirley has gone to be with the Lord, and will forever be missed by her loving family and friends.
Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Allen. Loving mother of Susan (James) Ballard, the late Linda Brown, and the late Allen (Kelly) Brown. Cherished grandmother of Logan Brown, Kaley Brown, Sarah (Michael) Stan, Michael Tomlin, Steven Tomlin, and the late Mary Tomlin. Adored great-grandmother of Lauren and Emily Stan. Dear sister of the late Annette Meeks.
Shirley will lie in state on Friday, April 22nd from 10am until the time of her Funeral Service at 11am at First Presbyterian Church of Warren, 3000 Twelve Mile Rd, Warren, MI 48092. Interment at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy, MI.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Shirley's name are appreciated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
