

Steve A. Preston (Przepiorka), age 87 of Shelby Township, died Sunday, August 02, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. Steve was born June 23, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late John Przepiorka and the late Mary (nee: Furgal) Przepiorka. He was raised in Hamtramck and served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II having attained the rank of Tec Sergeant with the Air Corps 571st Bomber Squadron, flying as an flight engineer and gunner. Mr. Preston entered his military service on February 26, 1943 at Ft. Custer, MI discharged on September 13, 1945 at Ft. Sheridan, IL. He flew over 35 bombing missions. After his military service Mr. Preston returned to Michigan and worked for Woody Pontiac in Hamtramck, then Johnny Motors Sales as the sales manager, before settling at AAA for the next 30 plus years before retiring as one of the top insurance agents. Into retirement Steve formed Preston Asphalt with his sons. Mr. Preston was also civic minded and devoted much of his time to Optimist International. He was one of the founding members of the Warren-Center Line Optimist, along with club building the Utica Optimist, he rose to the level of Lieutenant Governor of the Michigan Optimist. Steve cared for people and was devoted to his family. His favorite time spent was with his children, grandchildren, and family outdoors at his home or at theirs. Mr. Preston is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Eleanor (nee: Klepak), and his children Steven Preston, Elaine Nightingale, Darlene (Steve) Kamp, and Dwayne (Sheryl) Preston. He is the loving grandfather of fourteen grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and brother of Dolores (the late Ed) Wilson, and the late Jennie (Wallace) Jahimiak. Steves other children are Kathleen (Gerald) Krone, and Craig (Kathleen) Przepiorka, who he sadly missed, were never forgotten, and always loved. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation for Mr. Preston will be Wednesday from 5-8 pm, and Thursday from 3-8 pm, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common, (12 Mile). Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home Friday 11:30 am. Officiating the Funeral Service will be Rev. Fr. Robert Witkowski. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
