Susan Ann Caruso, age 66, of Prudenville, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 27, 2025. Born on June 6, 1959, in Hamtramck, Michigan, she was the beloved daughter of Richard and Joann Schweitzer.
Susan was the cherished wife of Giacomo Caruso, with whom she shared 16 wonderful years of marriage. She was a devoted stepmother to Holly (Mark) Sledzinski, Calogero “Jimmy” (Sarah) Caruso, and the late Jennifer (Joann) Miller. She was a loving and proud grandmother to Josh Miller, Jeremy (Tara) Miller, Gladys (Will) Sweitzer, Tony Caruso, Anthony Sledzinski, Andrew Sledzinski, Katie (John) Morningstar, Dana (Tyler) Williamson, and Ellie Sowards, and a doting great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren—with two more on the way.
Susan is also survived by her siblings Carole (Brad) Newer, Annette White-Swart, Marlena Stevens, and an uncle, Mike Huryn, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, extended family, and treasured friends.
Susan had a heart as big as her talent in the kitchen. She was known for her homemade ricotta cheese which she lovingly made for Giacomo every Sunday morning, unforgettable cheesecakes, and famous chocolate cake. Her cookbook collection was vast, a testament to her lifelong love of cooking and baking. A dedicated gardener, Susan filled her yard with beautiful hibiscus and a variety of vegetables. She found great joy in watching and feeding the birds, deer, and turkeys that visited her home.
She loved nothing more than showering her grandchildren and great grandchildren with thoughtful gifts and time. Susan worked for 21 years with Dr. Kenneth Hamilton, DC, BC, at his chiropractic office in St. Clair Shores, after lovingly caring for his children as their babysitter.
Susan’s warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit touched all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
