Vera was the youngest of ten. Her childhood was filled with the love, laughter and sharing. The sharing was with her sisters Theresa and Josephine. She didn’t mind much because she liked their clothes. When she was two and her brother Victor was four they walked down Van Dyke to Lynch Road in her diaper and Vic in his short pants. Josephine, Mike and George found us and we made it home safely.
She went to SS Cyril & Methodius School and in 8th grade she went to Blessed Sacrament Cathedral for Vocation Sunday. It was there I found I wanted to be a teacher. At that time I she only knew the Oxford Dominicans who were teaching her. She entered the Convent after 8th grade and was sent to many schools to teach in the Detroit Public Schools. After a few years on the Westside of Detroit she applied for the Eastside schools. She took over her brother’s duplex next to her father and taught at schools near the home until her father went into a nursing home in 1985. She then bought a home in Roseville.
Vera joined a singles club and traveled on the weekends with them and after a couple years she met Karl Lottholz through mutual friends Jane and John Horalacher. Vera and Karl dated for a few months and then married in 2001. In 2002 Karl was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He went through the treatments and fought the good fight, but sadly Karl passed away on August 15, 2002. They had a wonderful life together.
Vera was the loving wife of Karl. Beloved mother of Elli Silvola (Jim), Elaine Polhill (Kevin). Grandmother of Heather Silvola, David Silvola and Bradley Polhill (Tori). Sister of Josephine Mazur, Victor Zelenak, the late Louis, John, Michael, George, Margaret, Christine and Theresa. Daughter of the late Louis and Anna Zelenak.
