Viola Oswald, age 95 of Warren, died Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Shelby Nursing Center in Shelby Township, Michigan. She was born April 1, 1921 in Akron, Ohio, daughter of the late Theodore and the late Elizabeth Popa.In her earlier years, Viola was one of the iconic "Rosie the Riveters" who did her part for the war effort and was an integral part of keeping "our boys" equipped for the task of winning the war. She was quite proud of the work she did and the friends she made while getting the job done. When she wasn't busy "on the job" or tending to chores around the house, Viola was known for being quite the seamstress. She loved to sew and was renowned for her expertise and talents when it came to a needle and thread. Whether it was darning, repairing, or simply exercising her creative flair, Viola was a sewing phenom. Another area where she left an impact was the magic she performed in the kitchen. Viola knew her way around the stove and oven and used these two tools to whip together some incredible culinary delights,…especially when it came to her Romanian dishes, the food and recipes of her family's heritage. She loved to cook and prepared many wonderful meals over the years. If you left her table hungry, you just weren't tryin'!Viola was also somewhat of an outdoorsman who was always ecstatic when it came to the activity of camping. Escaping the concrete jungle for a little backwoods pleasure was right up her alley of favorite pastimes,…especially when it took her to some of Michigan's northern countryside. And for one who thrived in the outdoors, it simply made perfect sense that Viola was also an animal lover,…particularly in her attraction to all-things aviary, her precious birds. She gained special appreciation in watching the birds flit around her yard, and loved keeping them all well-fed. A loving and caring wife and mother, Viola was also a Godly woman with a deep and abiding faith that she held close to her heart and shared openly with the many people she met in her journey through life. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Viola was the beloved wife of the late Otto, and the loving mother of Janis (John) McFarlane. Visitation for Viola will be held Sunday, June 5th from 3-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. She will lie in state on Monday from 10:00 am until time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church in Warren. Interment will follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. Please share memories of Viola at her memory book above.
