Virginia Ruth Monroe, age 69 of Warren, died Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Ascension St. John Hospital & Medical Center in Detroit. She was born June 30, 1950 in St. Clair Shores, daughter of Shirley (nee: Forton), and the late Michael Bassett.
While performing her role as a title company agent, Virginia was a hard worker,…and like many of us, compelled to work indoors. So it only made perfect sense that much of her time off was spent “on the road.” There didn’t, necessarily, need to be a destination, she simply loved hopping in the car and taking in the beauty of her surroundings. Yet there were some interesting and memorable moments along the way, like the trips she was able to share with her precious nieces. Just the girls in the car sharing a bit of life, love and laughter, and creating memories to last a lifetime. Also memorable were the trips she shared with her Mom and cousins out west. While enjoying an entirely different landscape, Virginia returned home having captured many awesome vistas and the unique splendor that the west has to offer. It was surely a wonderful addition to her traveling portfolio.
Another of her favorite pastimes was enjoyed playing cards,…especially when it involved the rousing game of euchre. Certainly a Michigan favorite, euchre conjured up a host of different emotions and rivalries,…all in the name of fun, and Virginia could never get enough of the friendly competitions. Just put some players around a card table, serve up some adult beverages, then watch the excitement unfold. This was just part of the entertainment that Virginia lived for, and filled her soul with joy.
On a more sedate note, Virginia often spent some of her down time enjoying her passion for reading. Curling up with a good book helped her escape to a place of quiet and solitude that provided the perfect sense of balance and renewal.
Yet of all that brought her joy, nothing could hold a candle to the pleasures and delight she garnered from simply “being” with family and friends. Sharing the company of loved ones never got old, and there was no event more treasured to Virginia than the annual Family Reunion. She looked so forward, with eager anticipation each year, to gathering with her family,…both close and extended alike. Maintaining those family ties meant the world to Virginia and she poured her heart into keeping them tight.
A loving daughter, wife, sister and aunt, Virginia touched countless hearts and lives with her kindness, thoughtfulness and giving spirit. Though she leaves us far too soon, it is not without imparting the best of herself into the lives of all who were blessed to know her. She goes on ahead to join with those who have gone before, and awaits that “Final Reunion” she’ll share with family as they assemble in Heaven…one-by-one.
Virginia was the beloved wife of the late Bruce J. Monroe. Loving daughter of Michael and Shirley Bassett. Dearest sister of Ron (Cynthia) Klinefelter, Wanda Shoup, and Danny (Dawn) Klinefelter. Devoted aunt to several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Virginia will be held on Tuesday, August 13th from 12-5 pm, with a 4:00 pm Funeral Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd.) in Warren.
She will be laid to rest beside her beloved Bruce at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Township, Michigan.
