

Walter William Schmid, age 87, died Thursday, November 17, 2016 at his home in Warren, Michigan. Walter was born November 20, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Albert and Mary Schmid.Walter was raised between East Detroit and his grandparents farm in Richmond. It was while living on the farm that young Walter would come to learn the importance of hard work ethics and becoming resourceful with his hands. Walter later served in the Unites States Army and was stationed in Europe for over two years. Following his military service, Walter returned home to Michigan and began a longstanding career in the building trades arena. With over 50 years under his belt as a bricklayer for Monte Cosetllo & Company, Walter extended the utmost in service excellence until accepting his well-deserved retirement. He was a proud member of Local #2 Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers since 1948. Throughout his life, Walter was truly the go-to guy who could build or fix anything. He had a gift with his hands and built his own home and two cottages up North. Walter cherished his home away from home at the family cottage in Big Rapids, Michigan. While in retirement, Walter spent most of his time at the cottage tending to the garden which included tomatoes, corn, and even pumpkins. Walter was also very proud of his membership in the Lutheran Fraternities of America.At the end of his life, Walter could not wait for his Heavenly reunion with all of his family members and friends that had gone before him. He is surely visiting with his buddies and traveling all the golden streets of Heaven now.Walter was the beloved husband of the late Nancy Schmid, and the dear father of Susan (Jerry) Cesulski, Nanci Milam, Tricia (Bill) Bramble, and the late Robert Schmid. Additionally, he was the loving grandfather of Kim, Katie, Erin, Sara, Caitlyn, Michael, the late Steven, and great-grandfather of five. Walter was predeceased by his parents and brother, Albert Schmid. Visitation for Mr. Schmid will be held Sunday, November 20th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. His Funeral Services will be held on Monday, 11am at the Funeral Home.
